System 1:
Dell Dimension 8200, P4 Northwood 2.0A, 768MB RDRAM PC800-40 (the "fast" stuff that lets it do 533FSB)
Possible upgrade on this, a £1.95 P4 2.66GHz 533FSB (worth doing?)
CPU has SSE2 support
System 2: Athon XP1800+ (Palomino) on GA-7ZXE with BIOS F1 (v. old), Found id of Rev 1.0 so can update
512MB of PC133 (2x 256)
Noisy as hell, but I picked up a NOS socket A heatsink, PSU may also need cleaning or fan swap, or replacing (Eagle?).
CPU has SSE (not 2) and of course, 3DNOW.
This is going to be a 5V loaded system, or had they switched to 12V VRM at this point?
GPU 1: Radeon 9800Pro, requires molex power, DX9 capable
GPU 2: Geforce Ti 4200 - no power connection, DX8 capable, possibly an all time classic DX8 card.
Actually, both untested, so there may only be one - or none
Now maybe just seeking reassurance that I'm not missing something glaring...
If I have it right, the P4 is a bit more powerful, more so if I give it the upgrade, and the 9800 Pro is more capable.
So the P4 gets the 9800 Pro - and maybe serves as an XP retro box
And the Athlon gets the Ti4200 - and maybe becomes a 98 box.
Any better suggestions?
Would they be better the other way?
Dual boot XP & 98 on just one?
Got a couple of 40 or 80GB drives spare, plus a 400GB IDE (now that WOULD make a decent dual boot)
Also got a FSP 300W PSU spare with awesome 12V capability, just bumped it from another system
