Hello, I recently bought this ethernet card but I don't know if it's working or not.
Could you identify it for me? Is there a driver available for Windows 95? It's non-PNP I presume, W95 doesn't detect it.
Thanks in advance!
Its an Acer 5220. (not related to the 5220 extensa/netbook etc). There are netware drivers but I dont know if there is a dos packet driver or win95 drivers.
its using the DP8390D network ic driver chip, its a very common driver chip in old designs, often compatible with NE1000/NE2000 card designs, 3C503...
I would try NE2000 drivers first if you cant find original Acer 5220 ones
Too bad it only shows notebook related drivers for Windows and not this card. I tried googling every possible label on the card but no result aside from a russian site claiming this card is from a computer named ACER MPF-PC/710 (PC/710 IIM).
yeah they 'reused' the 5220 number and it screws up searched. Ther are novell netware drivers but pcmag said there was not other kinds provided with the card. It definitely looks like they just re-arranged the reference design from the NE1k/DP8390D sheets.
To be honest I don't really know how to set the correct parameters on the card without a manual. There is a DIP switch too and I have no idea what it does.
NE2000 compatible didn't work but I'll try NE1000.
NE2000 is 16-bit, so that card can't be compatible.
But it's safe bet it's compatible with NE1000.
Nie tylko, jak widzicie, w tym trudność, że nie zdołacie wejść na moją górę, lecz i w tym, że ja do was cały zejść nie mogę, gdyż schodząc, gubię po drodze to, co miałem donieść.

Indeed, its 8-bit and NE1000.
Dont mess with windows, try the DOS drivers first. You should be able to hand over IO, IRQ and DMA via a command line parameter. Try all IO-Adresses from 0x160 to 0x300 , IRQ and DMA doesnt matter in the 1st step. If the card is detected, you have the correct IO. Otherwise you will get an error message.
Thank you for all your help but I don't think I will be able to find the correct setup without knowing the current configuration of the card. I believe that the DIP switch combination sets the IRQ/DMA/IO and without a manual I'm just shooting blind.
I tried 59 combinations so far and none worked.
Follow the steps and, if necessary, refer to Acer 5220
Ethernet Card User's Manual Chapter 4 for easy installation.
1. Verify the SW1 setting for I/O and memory base address
configuration. If the memory is not used, set SW1-1 and SW1-2 to ON.
2. If the memory space is used, set jumper group 2 (J08 - J09)
to the proper configuration.
3. Set the jumper plug to the proper jumper position on the
interrupt channel configuration block J10 - J15.
4. Check the network interface used in the network system If thick
Ethernet is used, close all group 1 jumpers J00 - J07 in THICK
position. If thin Ethernet is used, close all group 1 jumpers in
THIN position.
5. Set J22 jumper to the proper position for selecting Advanced mode
or NE-1000 compatible mode.
After a lot of trying the card was finally recognized as NE1000 compatible just to be "lost" again after restart.
It was sometimes detected and sometimes not at all so I consider it faulty.
I have another card that needs identifying. Thank you.
So it can't really be used in a standard PC. Thanks for the info.

Coax/Twinax connected
These terminal emulators are used to replace terminals attached to a host or terminal controller via a coaxial cable (coax) or twinaxial cabling (twinax). They require that the computer on which they run have a hardware adapter to support such an attachment."
