Hello,
I'm in search of a volume mixer that can mute and adjust each application's volume. Many features I favored that Vista introduced were its improved volume mixer, DirectX 11 support, and improved appearance.

Is there a volume mixer mod for Windows XP that could introduce the Vista or later volume mixer? I've heard this was driver based and the only solution I'm aware of is IndleVolume.

Are there any free alternatives?

I found PulseAudio for Windows, but do not know how it works or if it will meet your requirements. PulseAudio on Windows
