To be honest, a Pentium 100 is not a good match for an SB Pro 2.0 anyway. Instead of messing with the mainboard, why not just use a newer sound card? You could go with an ESS 1868 for example.

That could be a hardware conflict caused by a driver in windows. Would explain why it doesn't happen in dos. ya that could be the GPU driver. I might try checking DMA checking to make sure there are no hardware conflicts in any address spaces.

I went with my sound blaster 16 ct1740. works pretty good and has decent compatibility, i don't care about the hanging note bug cause i don't have any midi devices.

i should save the SB Pro 2.0 for a 486 or 386.

No, it happens in Windows because Windows uses the graphics card heavily, unlike DOS, and that causes much more interference on the bus. That's why I made the suggestion to try swapping or moving the graphics card.

I use a CT1600 with my 233mmx and 200mmx builds, both work fine
CT1350 on the other hand could not handle the speed

How so? I last had my CT1350 installed in my Pentium III 550 build up until a few months ago and it worked just fine.

^ did not work for me, I was getting garbled sound and had detection issues in games
with the CT1600 all that went away , I've been using CT2230s for years without issues as well in these MMX systems

I removed the CD audio cable and that fixed it, the CD audio was making the sound card make a loud hum and static. also happened on a different board (Intel Advanced/ML)

CT1350B -> 286, 386SX
CT1600 -> 386DX, early 486s
SB16s (earlier) -> later 486s to early Pentiums
SB16s (later) -> 486s to Pentiums
AWE32 and later -> Pentiums

Keep it like that (period correct), and you will minimize problems. Using CT1350B or CT1600 on Pentium machine (even for testing) seems a little crazy to me (not to mention it's a waste of potential - both of the sound card which better fits older system, as well as the rest of the machine 😉

Also "hearing the bus" is absolutely normal on early sound cards - and Creative Labs cards are shining examples of that. Moving cards around the slots won't help, because the noise is on the bus (it's not emanating magically from (and around) the graphics card, IDE controller and so on) and is not really damped that much between slots (depends on particular motherboard though).

Still I prefer to hear that from the sound card and not from the computer itself like in case of modern machines (coil whine!).

its alive!!!

I little disappointed as I bought a soundblaster pro 2.0 to take my soundblaster 16 isa place.
But after three days oh trouble shooting, gave up and went back tothe 16.
my specs
pentiume 2 200mhz which was downclocked to 133mhz durning testing
bx2000 mother board with 200mb memory
voodoo 2 apg

the pro 2 worked great in dos. but in windows 98. it was bad.
window sound effects had static with it. sometimes sound effects would stop.
monster truck madness was a mess. voice overs in installer was getting cut off and stopping completly. the in game , the audio would get all garbled and die .. until went back into the games menu and sound would return only to disappear again.
some games played fine.

the soundblaster 16 isa plays great... model I have doesnt have the stuck note bug.

So you bought DOS/early Windows 3 era card, to replace replace SB16 card in a machine from the late Vibra 16/AWE64 and early PCI sound cards era and you expected it to work fine or even better? I don't know what was your logic behind it...
