I want to use a cdrom drive on my BTC 1857i. If I use the setup program suggested in the youtube vid by Phil's computer lab about the ESS1869f audiodrive card the program gives as only option when it arrives at the cdrom setting "1: turn off IDE ( or similar )" message.

Since the card has the IDE port on it that seems rather weird. Other cards in my 386 ( with a 486 upgrade chip ) are a TEKRAM DC600 / LONGSHINE LCS-6641 IDE CACHE CONTROLLER and an ORCHID FAHRENHEIT 180.

I suspect the jumper on the board giving the chance to choose between IRQ 12 or 15 is related to the IDE port ? Any suggestion, I am really not at home in configuring old dosmachines. Actually it's Commodore A2386 bridge board sitting in my Commodore A3000T . It has it's quirks but I don't know if the problem is related to that.

Is it maybe because something else uses those IRQ ? Unfortunately I can't use the DC600 for a cdrom.

Sorry for the pictures being wrongly orientated ... need to figure out why they do that.

What happens when you run ES1868.COM ("ESS IDE CD-ROM controller ( ES1869 ) enable program V4.6") with the appropriate parameters?

Also, there's that EEPR1869.EXE utility, with all those EEPROM codes, have you tried it?

1869i12.bin ES1869 ROM CODE WITH IDE use IRQ 12 (basic configure 0000)
1869i15.bin ES1869 ROM CODE WITH IDE use IRQ 15
1869i10.bin ES1869 ROM CODE WITH IDE use IRQ 10
1869nide.bin ES1869 ROM CODE WITHOUT IDE

Nie tylko, jak widzicie, w tym trudność, że nie zdołacie wejść na moją górę, lecz i w tym, że ja do was cały zejść nie mogę, gdyż schodząc, gubię po drodze to, co miałem donieść.

You mean did I enable it in the config.sys ( or is autoexec ? ) . Well I manually enabled it but that didn't really help.

I will search for that utility.

See that Phil's computer lab video - it's important that it's loaded in CONFIG.SYS, and before the CD-ROM .SYS driver.
Anyway, it should display some message - either a confirmation that the interface got enabled, or some error.

Now any hints where I can find it, I am overlooking it I think ?

But you also mention ES1869 enable program v4.6 while I have an ES1868 with enable program v4.3

About postings during boot:

There's first the post about the 1868 enable program and after that I tried with the Oaksys driver / device name MSCD001 but that says No drives found, aborting installation.

"woohoo" too fast ... "invalid drive specification" . Somehow I need to figure out why it says that after trying to do D: or E:

You mean the .SYS driver loads, but not MSCDEX.EXE ?
Perhaps wrong device name, you need something like "MSCDEX /D:DEVICENAME"

Nice to see you got it to work, but now there's one thing that puzzles me...

ES1868.COM /A:168 /I:A

...it means IRQ 10.
But you have flashed it for IRQ 15.

How can it work?
I guess that EEPROM code only selects the prefered value? For ISAPNP BIOS, or something?

I am not sure either but it does work for sure. I just entered these values because I saw them in Phil's video where he describes it as " this is for the cdrom " not knowing what they actually mean. I guess it gets ignored then ?
