My brother really likes the hopped up Win98 gaming system I made with 2800+/6800oc. He is now thinking of building a system so we can LAN, and asked me to help him. He wants to build around an Athlon FX57 he already has. He has no Win98 compatible motherboard. What's the best option available for this CPU? Also, I have access to an affordable 6800 ultra, will this pair well with the FX57?

Get an AGP motherboard with a VIA chipset. These will have the best windows 98 compatibility.

If it absolutely has to be a 939 board something like the Asus A8V (Deluxe) or similar boards with VIA K8T800 Pro chipset are probably your best bet.
Have fun! 😀

I had a nforce3 board for awhile (MSI) it seemed to work alright but once you start digging deeper into device manager...stuff is in compatibility mode or not supported (even if its not flagged). I would stick with a VIA based board like doornkaat suggested. They seemed to properly support 9x longer than anyone else.

I have an MSI K8T NEO2-F that plays nice with Windows 98. Anything with the K8T800 chipset should work nicely.
