Just get a new rectifier psu with matching voltage and minimum amps...that's it. If you want to spend 4-5x as much you can find genuine Roland Boss psu but why bother?

No, that's it not! Roland PSUs are center-negative. Almost all PSUs you'll find these days are center-positive, as that became standard, and they will fry the unit. So either get one that is advertised as being for Roland units, or get a normal one and swap the wires before using it. It's okay to pay 10 bucks for a PSU. Stay away from the cheapest China crap that you get almost for free.

ps: Roland PSUs are all compatible. All are 9V DC with a center-negative coaxial connector. Most had 500mA, a few 800mA, one or two 1000mA (for those with built-in floppy disk drives). The SC-88VL should work with 500mA already, but since more doesn't matter here, get one with 1000mA. This will allow using it for any Roland unit.

I usually by Leicke brand PSUs. They have all kinds of voltages, center positive or negative and other plugs. They are pretty much for Europe only though.

Roland still makes the SC-88VL PSU. The European model is the PSB-230EU (230V), but I don't know the US model number.

I purchased a genuine Roland/Edirol one for about 20$ Canadian (about 15$ US or so) from a brick and mortar music store .

This does not list the SC-88VL, but if you look at http://www.synfo.nl/servicemanuals/Roland/ROL … RVICE_NOTES.pdf , the ACI-120J is listed .I assume this is the Japanes version of the ACI-120 . The ACI-120 is replaced by the PSB-120 .

i'd stick to the original linear units over new switch-mode ones that could introduce more noise into the system.

So in the model numbers is the letter after the ac-120 just countrythe country? Like if i found an aci-120c it should work fine correct?

bought my generic china brand psu for my roland 88vl on ebay for like a fiver. had to get one for my mt32, one for the 88vl, and one for my mpu104 and another one for my mpu105...
