No not really. They call it a HD edition, but it's just a widescreen mod for the original game. The graphics are their original low resolution and that comes with some serious limitations on what you can do in terms of image quality / zoom.
This has all the art redrawn, so it should look great at any zoom setting. I think this is much more 1920x1080 friendly than the "HD" edition.
