Since I have had requests to post about this board, I will start with some pics and what was still available from ASUS for starters.. and then once I have time to actually play with this board I will post some more about it.

If it works, can you post some benchmarks with 1 vs 2 cpu? 😁

PCI, ASUS Media Bus, ISA and EISA?
Watch out, you so called "VIP" boards! 😁

Which OS do you plan to install? I wonder if it will run 2003 Server will run and if both CPUs will show up.

Once you have an OS installed I would like to know what my SIV utility reports for it, especially if any EISA cards are reported on Menu->System->ISA Bus.

Ok, so I am finally getting to mess with this board a bit. I was waiting for a 512KB COAST module to arrive and it finally did and actually works. I wasn't 100% sure it would work as the manual has a very sketchy support list.. as-in they only ever validated the ASUS CM1 Rev 1.6 w/tag.

The board boots up and works fine with Intel chips but even when setting the proper voltage for an AMD chip, the one VRM just gets burning hot and the board doesn't POST. Only have the multiplier set at 1.5/3.5 so that shouldn't be it. Maybe I have multiple dead K6-2 chips. Guess I need to test with a SS7 board to make sure the K6-2 chips are working.

I have an upgrade CPU around here somewhere just not sure where I put it... Interposer with a K6-2 333 installed so I will try that as well.

That is a really nice looking board and it sounds like a fun project to work on. Which OS are you considering for dual CPUs?

Probably Windows NT or 2000 depending on if I can get AMD K6-2 CPUs working or not.

I was under the impression K6 didn't support SMP?
Or was I just a victim of Intel's stronger marketing

That's what I thought too ..

But to my knowledge, Intel was all alone (maybe except from ServerWorks) to manufacture SMP enabled chipsets, thus making it easy to omit support for AMD parts ..

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

I think this was discussed here in a thread a few months back. I can't remember the exact terminology used, but it turns out that K6 chips do support some form of multiprocessing, but it's not compatible with the standard used by intel CPUs, and no products that support it exist.

Still sitting there waiting for me to mess with it again.

Probably won't get to play with it until after next week.

Ok.. so an update as I plan to actualyl put together a system with this board very soon.

I was able to find the second highest Mediabus card released which I though I would never find... the PCI-AV264GT. It only differes form the highest model (PCI-AV264GT/Plus) in that it only has 2MB RAM compared to the Plus which can be upgraded to 4MB and has SGRAM.

Apparently Wikipedia is incorrect as it says this card is supposed to have the ATI Rage but the one I have on the way has the 3D Rage II which is the same as the Plus model.... maybe there were 3 models????

Seller's pic:

PCI-AV264GT.jpg

I was also able to locate my other CPU adapter so I can verify whether or not 2x AMD K6-2 series chips will work or not.

If that doesn't work, I will try with a single Tillamook 266Mhz and if that work with the on-die cache, I'll go ahead and order a second one.

Otherwise I will be stuck with dual 233MMX CPUs.

Oh yeah.. I also have a nice EISA SCSI adapter to try out on this thing as well. Probably going to end up going with a PCI SATA controller and SSD in the end but since I have EISA slots I wanted to try out something that uses them. I probably have an EISA video card as well.. not 100% sure on that though as it has been a while since I bought EISA parts.
