Should've included one flight sim, very popular genre back then.

New channel, subscribing

I always find these top 10 things difficult, never know what they are based on.
With some I agree with others I do not. Go figure 🤣

Welcome and thanks for contributing.

Thanks both, indeed flight Sims were very popular and there was two that narrowly missed out on my top ten, but like everything it's subjective and these games that I selected just seemed to resonate with me the most. Always good to hear feedback, and thank you humbly for the subscription!

Agree, and my most favorite flight sim in that year was Their Finest Hour by Lucasfilm Games. Not quite an obscure game, but still overshadowed by its successor, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. I still have to box somewhere. Wait, just found it.

Their Finest Hour; one of the finest DOS games of 1989.

In any case, a better year for flight sims, IMO, is 1991. It was the year when VGA graphics had become standard in flight sims. It was also the year of Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, F-117A Nighthawk Stealth Fighter 2.0, Falcon 3.0, and Gunship 2000. I really love Gunship 2000, by the way, not to mention its strategy guide is an enjoyable reading in its own right.

Interesting selection of games, but I have to comment more about the presentation than about the content... the scaling should really be improved (aspect, gamma, blur). As it is, most people probably wouldn't mind because they're used to seeing DOS games like that on youtube, but to me this ain't easy to watch and sort of misrepresents the appearance of the games.

Nice list. I had completely forgotten about Shufflepuck Cafe, but before I had a computer we played that one very often at a friend's house on his Mac SE. I wasn't aware there was a DOS version.

Games I would include that were not on your list:
- Indy & the Last Crusade (Graphic Adventure)
- Colonel's Bequest
- A-10

Ah, wait. I remember: F-15 Strike Eagle II was also released in 1989.

Although, well, if you could only pick one flight sim, I think Their Finest Hour is a better choice.

Now I've been watching the 80's game reviews you did.
Good narrating voice and entertaining, keep m coming 😁

Some things I noticed:

  • stuttering in some games make me think you have cycles set too low. Try using CTRL-F11/CTRL-F12 if using DosBox
  • and a remark regarding Digger in the 1983 video
    • Press F1 to fire, is a kind of an important function 😉
    • Better use the booter and set the machine to CGA 850 cycles,
      • Now the game seems to be stuck in bonus mode colors
      • And all the color effects are missing
