The worst ThinkPad ever

So I picked up this 'iSeries' ThinkPad recently for very little money and although it physically works, the build quality is dire!

Badly designed hinges with no structural support around them just awful quality plastic. Every screw post is broken off and also every single clip breaks when you try and remove any panels.

I guess they made them cheap as they were only used once in a blue moon as the hardware management console to an iSeries server.

I've tried lots of superglue but I give up! This is just going into storage in case I ever come across another.

I read many in this range were actually made not by IBM but by Acer? Explains a lot. Even the DSTN panel is crap. It's only a Celeron 500 so nothing special anyway 😀

Cheers,
Steve

Acer also made at least some of the Aptiva models, though they seem to have done a better job with them. My little 500MHz K6-2 Aptiva is plenty sturdy.

If you want to fix that hinge, first you need to loosen it because it's for sure to stiff and that's the reason the plastic broke. And then there are other ways apart from the glue.
