Yes, X8 uses SAM5708B.
I designed a new revision which is a fusion of X8 and X16, including latest fixes and changes for both.

Unified version X8/X16L prototype ready.
This version uses 5716 chip, so is actually 16L : I will continue listing development under X16 thread
