you have to consider that these chinese motherboards matter a lot more in australia than in europe though ^^

Indeed. Living with their shipping constraints must make life interesting.

There was drama? They were his sponsor and I got a few great parts from them with his voucher codes. Good deal for me - I mean, a man's gotta eat.
I agree that his latest videos seem very generic and uninspired though.
That Audigy 2 ZS video seemed to be a bit rushed, for example. He just installed all of the bloat from the CD and made it look like that's the only way to make it run on Win98.
"It forces DirectX 9 and WDM" - bro, just install the drivers manually without the setup.exe.I also couldn't care less about [Generic chinese motherboard #7382], but I have to say that the videos are pretty well produced if you just look at time, editing and how the information is presented.
HighTreason sometimes rants on for an hour with a shaky camera in a dimly lit room - sorry, my eyes are too old for this to be enjoyable. 😀 I've grown fond of people like RetroSpector78, TechTangents, RetroManCave, Nostalgia Nerd and CuriousMarc- they produce their videos very well without them being too long.
Multiple discussions and arguments on this forum (i belive mostly people unhappy/dissapointed with the sponsorship and electromyne high prices in many retro parts, plus fights on the long closed and locked down ebay thread) from what i've heard about electromyne drama, there are mentions and threads about it, but they are long dead at this point since it was been over for a long time, it also happened around the time Phill left vogons
Yeah. some of his videos feels rushed as well, some were done in the wrong way and nowadays his lack of focus in retro computing pretty much put it into a second place considering his focus nowadays are budget modern computers and late XP era gaming
Well interests shift overtime and you get burned out messing with the same stuff all the time... I can't say I am interest much in xp-era systems but I can certainly understand Phil as I too take breaks and mess with other stuff like consoles or jamma boards or other home computers like Amiga, cpc, etc...
He lives in a remote part of Australia, so it must be quite difficult to obtain old hardware for acceptable prices. Furthermore the options for making a sponsored old hardware video are very limited, so I understand why he focuses on more recent stuff. You can't keep spending hours on something that costs money and then get nothing in return.

He's got a huge amount of old retro hardware, so I don't think it's got much to do with money. He's already spent it long ago. I think it's more that he's already covered pretty much everything there is to cover on older retro gear. It comes down to coming up with new ideas for videos that won't be rehashes of stuff he's already done.
The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

I think that's what they call a hobby.😄😉
He’s not that remote - postage cost has been no problem when I’ve sent him stuff and we’re on opposite sides of the continent.
He appears to be doing very well for himself; I’ve noticed that google is offering up his content often these days. But I assume that making decent money with YouTube means following sponsorship / advertising so that would start to define what you review and would be a hard thing to balance. That plus the tall poppy thing is always going to generate some resentment.

So you basically responded here for the sole purpose of trying to ridicule him? It's not like he is perfect, none of us are.
This is complete rumor BS, but I noticed that a dude named Phill in australia is dumping a bunch of retro hardware that Phill covered at one point or another in his videos.
You think he's dumping his old stock?

Opposite ends of the country (this seller is in QLD, Phil is in WA).
But yeah I've been seeing those listings, and it's quite a collection they're selling. But not getting too many bites at those prices.
Talked to a friend of Phil's. Phill said it's not him and now I feel bad for starting that.

Oh well, cleared up quickly and no harm done. Besides, who's to know how many Phils there are in Australia 😁
BTW, a bit more retro content of late, with the last three videos covering sound cards. Including a Gameblaster/CMS upgrade to a CT1350.
I also started it saying that it's probably bs.
But even then I probably shouldn't have posted that here...

Phil, is your page with the Audigy 2 drivers for the Sound Blaster live working? The link opens an empty page, tested with latest Firefox and Chrome.

I already have the file and installed steps 1 through 5, I was just looking for info about what the CTShared folder was for.

Phil hasn't made a reply here since 2017-06-30.

It's a 404 error for me as well.
Original thread follow instructions there. Guide: Installing Windows 9x and DOS drivers on Sound Blaster Live! cards (version 3.1)
"3.2 Run C:\AU1\CTShared\LaunchApp\SysInfo\Setup.exe which will install the Creative System Information utility and update the InstallShield Engine"
"3.8 Run C:\AU1\Audio\SFBMgr\Setup.exe and install the Sound Font Bank Manager (if you get an InstallShield Engine error here, repeat step 3.2)"
Looks like he's moved the info to his existing SB driver page (and has updated the link in his video description)
https://www.philscomputerlab.com/sound-blaster-live.html
For future reference, he's quite responsive to questions in his video comments, and on twitter.
