You mention installing the Live! Drivers withe the Liveware 3.0 CD. Did you update the drive verscafter that? Creative still has them available. Pretty sure there were updates after the 3.0 CD.

I am going to download the update. I will reinstall windows 98, now that my Voodoo1 which arrived a few days ago has been tested to work. I will run the W98 updates, tweak the system, install the Live!Ware CD and run the update, and then I will install the V1 drivers, then the V2 drivers, and finally the V5 drivers - and leave them at the default settings. I will probably backup my W98 install prior to the V5 driver installation, so that I can test the different available drivers (reference, Amigamerlin, etc.) In the meantime, I will look for more RAM (512 GB) and keep looking for a compatible slocket and P3 Tualatin.

I am trying to remain period correct, though I may grab a P4 if I find a mobo with enough PCI and ISA slots (maybe with integrated LAN,) and a compatible AGP slot - for convenience. I have a Roland SCC-1, but if I get the AWE64 Legacy, I can buy an external SC-55 and free up a slot (and sell the SCC-1.)

Just some extra photo's.
Tested Deus Ex GOTY @ 1024x768x16 3Dfx rendering.

Would be interesting to see if you could do the same with game Pył 😀

How the game compares to emulation 😀

I figured as much, but I don't know how to activate a frame counter in game natively, nor do I know of any program that works in an MS-DOS game and or 3Dfx mode.

You're just luring him into desperation how the time, efforts and $$$ spent into acquiring the piece of dreamed hardware were just trashed, if one just wanted to play games. 😉 But this is Marvin anyway, so seeing and experiencing the real hardware triumph over playing any games.

There is really nothing to show the performance of "whatever" Voodoo compared to any modern GPUs (even laptops iGPUs) from the past 5 years. Deus Ex with Glide renderer easily blew off the 100FPS mark at benchmark or 60 FPS VSYNC locked at any resolution during game play on *CENSORED* 🤣.

Lol, the hardware did cost me less then $100,-
The windows installation was already in place. It was a kind of a plug and play for me.
And games that can only run in 640x480 look a lot better on a crt screen.
I ran Mechwarrior 2 on dosbox on my modern machine, it suffices but it's lacking in graphics quality compared to the original. I still prefer to play it in MS-DOS on my 4:3 screen.

Builds:

Yes, but does this also count for the original release?
Since it is MS-DOS. And you wanted a performance comparison with the game and the emulator?

Anyways, we are way of topic here.
