Hi,

i build a Pentium 60 1-2 Years ago and did not use it very often,
but i noticed Strange Problems with Soundblaster 16, 32 and AWE64.

Each one is making a Crackling Noise when Playing Mod Files with GLX and Terminal Velocity has Strange Sound too.
All Cards are working fine in other Machines.

Playing Mod Files with MOD Master does work fine.
So it seems something is wrong with 16bit Playback ?

Also Adlib Sound and most 8Bit SB Sound Titles working Fine.

DMA is conflict Free, and IO Addresses too.

It somehow remembers me of UM8810PAIO Soundblaster Issues if wrong BIOS Version is used.

Anyone run this issue ? changing ISA Speed to compatibility, disabling LPT etc did not Help
also removed every Card except for VGA and Soundcard.

Thanks

Matthias

Just kinda taking a shot here but does your power supply have a -12 volt line and if it does is it in spec?

Sounds like you're trying to use SB16 in SBPro stereo mode. This doesn't work properly, SB16 is not compatible to SBPro stereo mode.

Anyway got around it, put SB in a Bin and use ESS1869 with X2GS now.

Long shot but does your sound card need a -5volt line and does your power supply have -5volts?

No, it does not have -5V and its also not needed.
I run no Card that requires -5V.

Missing -5V with Card needing it would cause Weird Sound in all Titles, not only a few specific ones.

The issue really was the PSU, it had ripple current.
The Soundblaster did not like this.
I replaced some caps inside the Enermax PSU and it works again.
