Yeah I am aware of how 6800 Ultra and X800/X850 stack up.

Another thing to think about with R4x0 vs. NV4x is the SM2 vs. SM3 perspective. I played Oblivion on a X850XT and it is missing a number of effects. This was a problem that 6800 didn't have. Bioshock actually caused a little uprising when it wouldn't run on Xxxx cards. 😉

Aye to SM3. It knocks a lot of Unreal 3 based games off the table for X850 as well. Certainly a card that "lived fast and died young." 🤣 Curiosity: Oblivion actually has SM3.0 effects?

oh yea, one of them being HDR, real HDR not 24bit Bloom

The HDR is SM3-based. With an R4x0 based card you can only use the "bloom" effect and it's decidedly less natural in its appearance. There may be other things but I don't remember offhand.

R4x0 actually can do some more effects than R3x0 in the game. SM2 vs. SM2b.

I remember Bioshock and Splinter Cell Double Agent being a gigantic fuck you to SM2_0 owners 😀
given what the games were really, it's not really much to miss.

That's probably why I wasn't aware of it - the HDR in Oblivion always looked garish to me, so I never enabled it. 🤣
