I would be up for a irc . Vogons . org IRC.

Might even be tempted into hosting again.

Not a good idea if you ask me. I mean, this would make a good sentiment in the 00s, but it's just a little too late for that. Now that the reality of IRC is nothing short of harsh, our primary objective should be to join forces under one flag and common theme that strikes a chord for as many people as possible. It shouldn't be one network one project anymore, that's a priori a lost bet. You will end up with just a handful of idlers and considering the amount of work and time needed to set up and maintain IRC, it's just not worth it anymore (I do happen to know the price of it). Also, IRC community is already as divided and fragmented as it can be. Too many different networks, a lot of which don't even carry any message or are reduced to a single project. Yes, RN is another new network, but it boasts a unique and noble philosophy. It's not there to divide people but to actually unite them and save at least one category of IRC users from extinction and IRC in general.

Anyways, I'm saying all that NOT because I'm staff on RN and I gotta push it to the market, it's just common sense now. And if I were to choose between vogons dedicated network and not very appealing but developed and heavily trafficked Libera, I would most definitely pick the latter without hesitation. Seriously, just stick with #dosbox or create #vogons on Libera so as not to move anyone around too much. It's also a better option than all those rotten efnets, undernets, etc. And, of course, you could always join us and donate your server. We've got a handful already, so you won't have to start from scratch, look for others, etc. Most people wouldn't bother and we take care of everything, it can't get any more convenient.

Im owned and operated my own IRC server in the past. I know what its like, and I know what it is to promote it to others too.

I would not be interested in a vogons IRC that was tacked onto another network in the way you suggest.

Well then, good luck wasting your time and setting it all up for just one channel with like 5 people on it from this here forum. You obviously don't think in terms of a larger community bound by common goals and interests, more like your own little kingdom where you can "rule" even if it's just 5 people. You also don't seem to realize that things like that make IRC even more unattractive and miserable. Have fun destroying it further, sir.

Either way, I'm sure vogons/dosbox admins are not taking it seriously, which is good news. I'm all for them staying on Libera, which isn't exactly my cup of tea, but at least it makes much more sense today. It's a FOSS network, DOSBox is an opensource project among others and that's where it belongs. It's evolved, it's active, you can get other support there related or otherwise. And personally I never said #dosbox should move to RN, I only suggested an alternative ground for some of the people currently here and on #dosbox. You on the other hand want to extend this place to IRC where you can finally "rule", since you can't ask for mods here or on #dosbox for that matter. And note, I DID offer you oper but you still aren't interested because you want to be on very top and MAKE the rules. I would never want to deal with your kind if you ask me.

I am on irc.retronode.org: #retroware

Im not interested in being an OP, just hosting.
It would be up to people like you to op channels.
