Mine has the Cirrus Logic CL-GD5428, Motherboard revision: PB450M (according to my findings and the BIOS screen). The board has 2 IDE ports, 1 FDD port, and jumpers everywhere. It's the board in the first photo on your post.

Understood. Unfortunately, the PB450 does not support PCI.

Dang. That's unfortunate. My plan is to get a cached IDE controller card for the Packard Bell since the OS takes a long time to load sometimes. Also, it's my 1,000th post for close to 5 years running! Here's to 1,000 more.

I found a 5150 in my in-law's basement.
It has an aftermarket 80286 upgrade card. This upgrade requires to short two pins on a specific IC on the motherboard. Does anyone have any information about this?

I still have the original cpu though.

It came with a 5151 monitor. It has no hdd but the cables are there. It also has two 5 1/4 drives.
The case is very rough because some liquid got spilled on it and made a very big patch of rust.
The inside is good. Dusty but good.
I also have a box full of IBM books and floppies.

List of HW found inside :

Hercules video Card
Unknown brand 80286 upgrade with RAM. Full sized card.
AST SixPackPlus
MFM and Floppy Controller
Two 5¼ drives (might be 1.2Mb drives, as they look "modern".
5151 Monitor

And it does boot !

What are the error codes on the screen? If it boots all the way, it should go to a basic screen (built in basic). If you see a 201 error code you have faulty memory or memory dip switches have wrong settings.

Not sure if the Basic will start with the 80286 upgrade card...

Might be worth it to try the steps on this site:

If there is no hard drive in the computer connected to the MFM interface, you may have to disable the MFM interface portion of the card installed in the system. It probably has a jumper for this, though with all those aftermarket parts, you're going to have to do some digging to find the jumper settings. This is a good place to look: https://th99.bl4ckb0x.de/

Congrats on the find though! I have a 5150 that I've upgraded significantly. I installed an Orchid Tiny Turbo 286 card in mine and it works great. Almost everything I've run on the system works perfectly with the 286 enabled. Mine has a switch on the back I can flip which toggles between the 286 and the original 8088.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

So close to turbo mode? That's interesting that you have that in your system.

My friend has an MFM drive. I would like to try it. Can I use almst any MFM drive or a specific model only ?
I'm also planning on using the XT-IDE Glitchy thingy that I ordered in case I cannot use an MFM HDD.

Great find! It looks like 2 different monitors though. Is the one in the boot of the car a LCD in a 5151 casing?

That's the same monitor, just with a screen protector attached.

Don't they make adapters for that?

Sure yeah I need to get back to doing some videos so maybe I'll do a video on restoring this one (Or one just like it since I've got a stack of PB machines). But yeah the riser cards should be swappable as long as it's the same height.

If you do a full restore of this system, it would be a nice touch it you could produce a reproduction spec label for the case. Since it is not a Nintendo cartridge, perhaps it would not incite too much disapproval.

Funny you should say that actually cause I was discussing that in a Packard collecting group yesterday. Lol

I have a few systems with messed up stickers I wouldn't mind making new again, eventually I'd like to print up repro sales floor display signs based on various photos also. But that will have to wait till my finances are a bit more stable and I also have room to display them all. Lol

Better look for one of these keyboards that have this little switch on the bottom to change between AT and XT protocol.

Found another machine!

Neat case, probably not going to keep it but it seem to be complete so I'm trying to get it to boot right now. Seems to have a Pentium 150 in it and it's running Windows 95.

What sound cards does it have? Looks like one is ISA and one is PCI.

The bottom one looks like the Sound Blaster 16 WavEffects CT4170 (I have one, and I detest the CQM synthesizer). The other one, I've never seen before (PCI cards had the jack on the opposite side than the ISA cards). Great find, no doubt.
