Woa... Kyro PCI? Now I'm wondering if the Prophet 4000 I have is PCI or AGP. I know my Prophet II 4500 Kyro II is AGP, but I don't remember looking that closely at the other when I got it.

Over the past year or so I've really begun to notice how much more valuable and rare PCI cards seem to be.

EDIT: After frantically tearing through my "collection" tote, I see that my card is a 3D Prophet 4000XT AGP. I am also reminded of how I need to sit down and do some DOS benchmarks and compatibility tests with a bunch of the oddball cards in my collection. I have some strange ones like Permedia, i740 (two different ones), Savage 4000, Kyro I\II, and a slew of others. Would be interesting to know how some of these work for DOS.

For some reason odd ball cards tend to excel in DOS it seems. E.G. My Savage2000.

Click on thread expecting a wonderful sound card, and of course I'm not disappointed.

I have a feeling we don't see many good sound cards around anymore because you are hoarding a couple thousand of them.

I'm very happy of it. But as they say "appetite grows with eating"... there are stil so many cards I miss in my collection... I have to be patient...

Got another Pentium60 board - this time a high quality SiemensNixdorf Scenic 5H-D841.
Only downside is that there is no front side bus jumper so I have to solder in another oscillator with 66 mhz which I have already ordered. Should I find 70mhz oscillators I'll buy them too and maybe it works at this, rather nasty, frequency too. I could not read the markings clearly so I hope these are not 5V parts.
Performance-wise the board, besides the low clock- and memory writing speed, is rather fast. In fact it is nearly as fast as the SI5PI with sub-optimal cache settings at 66mhz... pretty respectable.

Heh, I had to zoom in on that, Siemens Nixdorf Scenics also had a socket 5 board with virtually identical layout. I wouldn't really call it a high quality board though.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Gor offered these for 3 bucks a piece.. The S370 is passable but is the dual slot 1 motherboard with weird power connectors worth buying and wth is that Rage 3D / adaptec scsi hybrid card?

The Pentium II board must be a server board hence the weird power connector.

And the Rage/SCSI board probably goes with it.

If the price is good and they work, it may be worth picking up that lot.

Got a couple of 60ns 1 MB SIMMs with parity today. Now I can run my 16 MHz 286 with no wait states. 😀

That s370 board is, if I'm not mistaken, a MSI 694T Pro. Tualatin support. Personally, I would pick it up.

Oh wow, when I think of 60ns I think of hotrod DX50s. Wouldn't have occurred to me to put better than 80ns on a 286, but guess they don't have L2 to smooth things out.

Well, with 80 ns you either need 1 wait state or can not go faster than 12.5 MHz.

Is the 16MHz 286 an AMD processor?

AMD did 16 MHz 286 in PLCC and CLCC.
Harris produced 16 MHz PGA, and 16, 20 and 25 MHz in PLCC
Intersil produced 16 and 20 MHz in PGA, and 16, 20 and 25 MHz in PLCC
Siemens produced 16 MHz in PLCC

Constantly being worked on. Feel free to message me with any corrections or details of cards you would like me to research and add.

No, Harris. It's actually a 20 MHz one, but the chipset can not go beyond 16 MHz.

Oh, I picked up a small piece up yesterday that enables an out of date GPU, not that retro yet, a DMS 59 to dual DVI adapter for a weirdy HD3450 that fell in my lap a while back. I wasn't that anxious to get it functional, just saw the adapter for pocket change and grabbed it. Might store it another decade, after all it was the aspirational GPU for those ppl who went, "I want something just about faster than my onboard graphics, but not too much." but still couldn't afford it. Still, it might end up in something that just needs a pixel pusher, like an emulation rig for non 3D stuffs.
