On a side note, by the time I finally go to Win 11, there will be tools to remove all the "AI" junk if it's still there. I'll be on 10 for quite some time yet. 😀

Why even bother, have you considered Linux instead?

I have Win11 at work and Copilot is already embedded in literally everything. Thankfully it does not offer its "services" for every task the user is attempting to do... yet. But already on the lock screen there are constant notes like AI is being used for this-and-that, AI is guiding us to better sustainable future and all that jazz.

And you thought Communism was a bad thing.

There is no way that will happen. If Windows started randomly deleting people's files, you'd immediately see the biggest migration to Linux desktop in history.

It is already doing that, even on Win10, on the pretext that the files are infected with malware or otherwise dangerous. Who knows what it is actually not liking in the freeware old games or demos that I download for research, but of course you could always say it's just false positives.

In a word, gaming. Linux can't do the variety of gaming that my family and I do. At least, not yet.

That being said, every other system in my home that's not used for gaming, runs Ubuntu.

We run 11 at work as well, and copilot is indeed in everything, and widely used by staff to assist in composition. I was kinda shocked considering they allowed it since I work in healthcare, where privacy and security are paramount. Though there are a collection 3rd party integrated security tools and systems in place, as one would expect.

Either way, I won't use 11 at home on my own system until I have no choice, that's where software/games I want to use stop working with no way to workaround. So, I'll likely be on 10 for years after its EOL. I can handle my own security internally. 😀

I never really understood why content creators don't use backup services, just in case. After the video is done, is it really too much to spare a couple of minutes to share it on something like odysee, peertube or whatever else besides scamtube?

I do feel bad for yet another middle aged guy in a baseball cap with a shelf full of videogames in the background posting videos with clickbait thumbnails and titles, but I suppose he's just not interested in backing up his content, since doing so wouldn't make him any money.

looking at the view count i doubt he's making much money from youtube anyway, directly or via patreon etc

not sure but sounds like you view it with some suspicion..

I watch some parts of a couple of videos and all seems fairly standard stuff and probably enough there to interest a games enthusiast. There are lots of channels like that, even the simpler ones must take a lot of editing. their 'hourly rate' when looking at earnings would be dismal i imagine

I imagine that in 10 years' time, Linux will have resolved compatibility problems for games you're interested in anyway 😀

Even some 10 years ago, Wine was already in many cases a more reliable way to run older Windows games than then-current Windows releases (like Win8). But that's me the retro-oriented gamer speaking.

This actually happened to me a couple of years ago. Thankfully I had everything backed up.

Re: [Solved] Is there a way to remove/dismiss virus alerts in windows 10's defender?

Seriously, hard drives are so cheap now, why on earth wouldn't you keep multiple local copies of all important files. This guy was really dumb.

Is this too much voodoo?

That would be nice. 😀

For retro and older games, Wine is absolutely amazing. Lots of modern games also work well, as do a wide variety of indie titles, just not many of the ones I play.

That's OK, I like Win10, I have it configured to my liking, and 3rd party security tools will keep it running for quite a few years yet.

I really hope he can save his channel. This is why I don't do the YouTube thing.

ShutUp10++ does exist after all. It apparently already disables Recall.

Thing is MS is integrating the AI crap so deeply into the Windows file system there isnt a good way to remove it without breaking things.

They are literally making the AI crap a dependency for explorer and other core system functions, recall is built that way to prevent people from removing it or even disabling it.

Flashbacks to IE 4 and Windows 98.

Well, yes, my family lived through it for four long decades. Microsoft's business practices are not remotely comparable.
