RS-232 devices are supposed to be, per the standard, quite resistant improper voltages on unexpected pins, AFAICR, though that might apply mainly to DTE ports (like the computer's COM ports), not DCE equipment like a mouse.

I will see if I still have an exoendable Logitech serial mouse with PS/2 compatibility somewhere and a compatible adapter to test.
