Oh it pings alright, but no cigar. Client set to ftp. Is there anything at all you had to modify in the TCP/IP protocol setting, etc?

Nope. Everything is as basic as it gets in network settings, DHCP etc.

In that case, I'll test it wired as soon as I get the cable from amazon. I just live in a place that is not very conducive to a properly wired LAN at the moment.

It works like a charm without a wired connection. The issue, as it turned out, was that the local IP of the wifi bridge itself is not the same as the device it's bridging -- and one of those IPs does not even show up in the list of devices connected to the router.
