It is actually a fan on top of that heatsink. I posted this in another thread. The fan helps cool the heatsink.

I think what they mean is, your Voodoo 3 already has a stock heatsink on the chip. And then you put a fan with another heatsink on top of it. That won't provide adequate cooling.

If you don't want to modify the card, consider getting one of those bracket coolers as shown in this post and install it in the slot under the Voodoo card.

Yeah that looks like a pretty nifty solution. I should probably get one of those soon.

I agree with ciornyi, you have a heat sink on top of a heat sink? Absolutely yes, keep the original heat sink in place and install any kind of fan giving that some circulation, and you will have a way better cooling that what you get from the combo you've made now 😀

But, that fan is mounted inside a round heatsink. Or am I getting blind here? You don't have direct airflow on the big rectangular heat sink with that setup? It looks like a HSF from some other graphics card?

Oh I now get what you are trying to convey. Actually the small fan does provide some airflow to the heatsink below. The heatsink of the fan is a bit shorter than what the fan diameter is. Thanks for pointing that out though. I will probably try some another solution soon.

Love a good 95 build! I put one together myself not so long ago (my sound card is a crappy ess though), I gotta get Fifa 98, havent played that in ages, soon as I hear that intro song its a time warp

I have heard that a large number of games made in the 96-99 era were made keeping the GLIDE API in mind. 3dfx used to be the market leader in the late 90`s gaming scene before Nvidia and AMD displaced them. I was oblivious to this before learning about the history of 3dfx.

I think you are definitely going to have fun with the banshee and Fifa 98. I also forgot to mention that Fifa 98 had some of the best commentary among Fifa games despite being so old. Also wanted to add that the game actually included all the teams in the world. If I am not mistaken it was also for a time the most inclusive Fifa game to be made and you could basically play with any nation that your heart desired and win the world cup. I mean you can play as USA and win the world cup beating the likes of Brazil, England and France. Something which you could not do with later Fifa games. Also the only minor issue that some people might have are the dated graphics. The problem of pixellated graphics goes away if you use a 3dfx card or a glide wrapper.
