SPEEDSET is the updated version of PITSET. Use it instead. It's available in Deep Thought.

Thanks. I tried this one and now see an effect. However, I am unable to find the right setting (or it just doesn't exist). It seems no matter what there's always that pause. Everything pause then animation and sound play like normal - just that extra pause. Disabling sound effects in the settings fixes it, but it stinks to have to do that. 🙁

Well, thanks for the help.

I tried dual-boot with Win98 and Win2K (since most of my games worked in Win98 - only Dark Savant and Lands of Lore had trouble). I could have sworn MoM worked for me in Win98 using legacy Dos sound with my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. But that doesn't work now. I'll have to mess with Win98 more some time to get it to work better. For now I just play with the combat sounds off in Win2K.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys/gals.

The following comes from the Usenet; is it of any help (i.e. the specific settings mentioned there)? If it is please reply here.

I installed MOM and VDMSound, and only had to run the MOM install program,
setting SB 1 for the Midi Card and SB Later Version for the sound card, I
didn't even have to configure them. Didn't make any pif files. Seems to
run fine. I've got sounds and music enabled, and it doesn't seem to be
slowing down at all. I'm running it on a Dell P4 2.53 gHz, sound blaster
live value, nothing special about the setup (pretty vanilla). If I run into
any problems, I'll post them.

You might try a "fresh" install of MoM to see what happens. If there were any hardware changes (at all) they could've triggered a compatibility issue.
