I'm resurrecting this thread because I've done what I suggested those years ago. Pentium II SECC OEM heatsink that was normally fan-less now attached to an Athlon. The Athlon had the usual 5000 RPM 60mm fan equipped cooler that was very noisy. Now it's almost silent.

Athlon before and after. Undervolted fan attached with zip ties. These OEM heatsinks attach with screws. The Athlon screw holes were untapped but steel screws don't have much trouble tapping aluminum.
