After years of using DOS with everything from Pentium 166 and up, I got my first 486, and it has the FIC 486-VIP-IO motherboard. Is there anything I should pay attention to with this board in 2026? I'm more concerned with stability and compatibility than speed. For speed, I even have Athlon XP systems with ISA... 😁

stay away via chipsets on 486 cpu. poor ram bandwith performance, fpm ram only usaeable with cia chipsets
only advantage is ps2 mouse header

jumper the turbo switch header or toggle the button if its in a case.
bad performance could be missing L2 cache, does the amount show up on boot? There are some cache tools like cachechk that can confirm its working.
are you using a vlb video card?
what are you using to judge performance?
