Do a clean build with no extra crap, then start removing bits of hardware until it works.

For SMB you can lock down the Windows Firewall for ports 139 (9x) and 445 (2000+) to only the IPs that need access.

There is no extra crap except for that PCI-e WLAN card. I'll try removing it to see if that's the culprit, but I somehow doubt. I didn't even install AC'97 driver so PC speaker is my only sound device.

Maybe my disc is an older version? i tried every compatibility mode /OS and got nowhere with it.
