Don't forget to install a cooler on the cpu. It won't last long without 😀

Done! Good lookin' out. 👍

Hello. I’m new to the forum, though I’ve been visiting and learning from it for a long time.

I have a similar issue. I have the Lucky Star 4S-1A (Funworld Barry) version:

https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/lucky- … 2-imi-clock-gen

The thing is, the VGA only works in the third PCI slot; in the other two, it produces a POST code of 1 long and 3 short beeps.
I’m not sure if this is due to a resource conflict or if there is an actual problem with the slots. My understanding is that if the BIOS POST issues a warning, it is because it detects the VGA but is encountering some form of incompatibility.

The beeping in non working slots means video bios can't be initialised. The most common cause on old computers is oxidised slots or card contacts. Put some deoxit or contact cleaner on the card pins and perform 4-5 card insertion and removals on the slots that don't work

The card works perfectly on all the motherboards I’ve tested. It is not an issue with the card. The slots are pristine.

Could it be an IRQ conflict or something of the sort?

No, it sounds like a contact issue.

I have already tested the PCI slots, and there are no contact issues.

I’ve done some research, and this board is very finicky with assignments; regardless, I’ve exhausted myself changing BIOS settings and nothing works.

Are you aware of any posts addressing this issue or any modified BIOS that fixes this resource conflict, which I suspect is what is happening?

The plot thickens! So I can even get the post beep code consistently and I think it may just be due to me letting the card sag while I was testing things. I'm still not getting any video and I'm so confused and frustrated. Tried cleaning card and the PCI slots with no luck. Help? T^T

Edit: I tried messing with the FSB settings, and I've been able to get the post beep code on 25 and 33mhz...

Can we get a closer look at your RAM simm, or maybe verify what happens if you try with no ram at all

I'm so sorry I doubted you! It was the ram! I swapped it out for some sticks I had in another machine and it booted immediately! Correct bus speed and everything B)

Thanks to everyone for your help!

Update: The video card is still giving me issues...Seems like it's VERY particular about how it's sitting in the slot. I can't even get the case put back together without making it angry and losing video...Seems like I'll need to replace it. Progress though! Not mad about that.

I’m having the same issue with a Cirrus Logic GD-5446; it only boots in slot 3.

I have the Lucky Star 4S-1A (Funworld Barry) version:

https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/ ... -clock-gen

I’ve tried different IRQ resource configurations in the BIOS, but without success. I know slots 1 and 2 are in perfect condition based on contact tests. The BIOS only triggers video error beeps in those two slots.

I’m going crazy.

I’m even considering using Modbin to examine the PCI routing table and correct it, although this is new and quite advanced for me.

Do other cards work correctly in those slots?

It really sounds like a contact issue, if not in the slot then somewhere else in the signal path.

The video BIOS gets executed very early on in the boot process. That beeping is most likely due to the VGA BIOS not loading properly, if at all, which is why I suspect a signal issue.

Does it beep the same way without a video card plugged in?

I’ve installed a PCI Wi-Fi card, but honestly, the power LED lights up and there are no beeps in any of the slots, so I don’t understand what’s going on. If you’d like, I can provide the BIOS details or the information from the Astra software.
