I noticed that the combination of Compaq PC and ESS1868F does not always work flawlessly with the sound. But a soft reboot does the trick. None of my many PCs work absolutely error-free, that's probably part of the old stuff.
I've already got a new project in the works, that won't work either, there are too many older parts missing, but it doesn't matter. Best hobby right? 😀
