If your hardware operates properly, it is expected to work perfectly with "4 floppy drives: DISABLED".
I have to check out this 4 floppy drive thing...it's new to me. In the BIOS i think, right?
It seems I misunderstood you. I'm sorry about that. I understood that you changed an option called "4 floppy drives", but I guess you meant that you tried four different floppy drives, and after changing the floppy drives, the hard drive started to work.
To me, it makes no sense that changing a floppy drive in an otherwise working system would allow the hard drive to work or not work. This means there are some yet unknown issues with your system. For example, you might have a problem with the power supply or the cables from the power supply to the drives, and changing drives might have an effect on that. As you did swap nearly all parts except the power supply and the main board yet, trying a different power supply might be worth a shot, although this is not guaranteed to help.
