Interesting, I never gave Arcanum a chance because it felt like a weird Diablo/Baldur's Gate hybrid in terms of gameplay but I should definitely check it out I suppose. I think I have it in my GOG library.

I have the same problem on Steam as well. 200+ on GOG 400+ on Steam. 600 games by 40 hours on average is 24,000 hours or 1000 days or roughly 3 years of gamepkay evwn if I never sleep. I need to stop.. but I can’t!

I've always hated steam with a passion and only started using it (for a second time) due to skyrim. I've got maybe 20 games on steam? But I haven't played most of them (not yet 😜 ).
But I make up in it by having a nice collection of physical games 😁

I've been giving Steam's refund policy a workout lately and I gotta say it works well. Actually I haven't felt the urge to complain about Steam since the beginning with HL2 on a dialup connection - the launcher never gets in the way and the family sharing option works pretty well too. My most recent refund requests were for Assassins Creed Odyssey (Uplay got confused after a family share attempt) and Sims 4 (EA didn't allow family share) - neither Steam's fault. I hate the multiple launcher thing - I might have to look into no-cd cracks in future, haven't thought about those for years.

I've been rebuying Securom physical copies of my Windows XP games in my Steam library and buy games on there anymore - if it's not on GOG I don't buy it. The only exception are the damn Steam giftcards people give me every Christmas.

Right now I'm playing Wolfenstein 2009 - physical copy works fine but I'm on Windows 7.

I'd love for GOG to get this. It's the only single-player FPS in the series I haven't played yet.

My problem is that I have a lot of free games on Steam and Epic store, but with my internet I will most likely die of old age before I get them downloaded.

I'm not sure why they haven't considering they've just recently released New Order and Old Blood. It was actually the fact that they skipped it over that made it clear to me I had to get a physical copy and I'm really glad I did.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - After initially cracking it (poor wording) losing my patience and trying to return it due to a Uplay issue, I've given this game a try and it's pretty terrific so far. Way more action than RPG of course but the RPG elements are done well and so is everything else - great voice acting, surprisingly engaging and humorous writing, incredible graphics and world design, mind blowing climbing / jumping / swimming mechanics, seamless stealth. Lots to like here.

There are micro-transactions and I had random online player's pictures being highlighted on my map at one point which is pretty abhorrent, but I'm managing to look past that because the core game is so much fun.

@badmojo - that is a pretty looking game! I wish there was a modern remake of Wizardry 8 with graphics like that. Speaking of remakes, have you tried the latest alpha build of System Shock Demo? It's still rough around the edges, but it's looking promising.

In Wiz8, I've been save scumming at Shaman Das in Trynton for the Diamond Eyes mace. He has a 2% chance of dropping it, so it's been slow going. It's the best secondary weapon in the game for my dual mace wielding Lord.

Hi @clueless! I'm amazed as always at your dedication to the games you play, wish I had a bit of that. I have looked at Wiz8 from time-to-time since getting it running on my PIII but it hasn't caught on, I hope you're still enjoying it.

Yes Assassins Creed sure is pretty and I've spent some time messing with the myriad options around the HUD and gameplay - most of the modern bling can be pared back. And no I haven't checked out the SS demo but will do so at some point - great to see the classics getting some love. One of my faves 'Gothic' is also getting a remake and a demo exists, but it looks pretty awful unfortunately. I would have loved a quality remake of that game, oh well.

@badmojo - I don't really consider it dedication, it's just my idea of entertainment. 😀 I really enjoy classic RPGs. I do wish I had more time so I could finish them a little more quickly, but it is what it is.

BTW, I used the CosmicForge Editor to bump up the Diamond Eyes drop rate to 4.8% and got it within 15 minutes. 🤣.

Most of Dawn Patrol allied missions require you to protect friendly bombers, so they can destroy the ground target shown by the little red square on the map. Problem is, those friendly bombers are always too bloody stupid to do their job, so that the mission always fails even though you have cleared all enemy fighters. As such, you always have to go to the red dot on the map and destroy it yourself to not fail the mission.

Well at least most German missions only ask you to destroy enemy bombers and their escorts --much less tedious, I must say!

Classic RPGs are interesting to me in that they are more like "projects" than games in a way. It's a weird comparison, but starting a new classic RPG is a lot like starting a new woodworking project. There's a lot of repetition and busywork; but if you are into it, you know you are going to have hours and hours of fun and finishing it will really seem like an accomplishment. People who aren't into it so much will wonder how you can spend (waste? haha) so much time on a single thing.

Might & Magic II
I've mapped out and explored all of the towns, so now I am mapping the roads between them. This takes some time because the wilderness tends to be much more dangerous than the towns, though staying on the roads is generally safe. Still, I can't fight the temptation to explore a bit outside the roads, which often ends in encountering very high level enemies (i.e. party wipe). One reason I do like mapping by hand is that it helps to take away the sting of losing progress in the game in between saves when you die—even if you lose your progress, you've still made progress in drawing your maps.

I have been playing Frontier: Elite II for the first time in ages. In DOSBox, though I have also been trying out glFrontier. What is the latest version of this? The project appears to be dead and the websites have gone.

I totally get that. I used to do the same in my graph paper days as a teen. I'd go on 'suicide missions' just to graph out a section of game I knew was too dangerous for me so I'd know the area when I was actually powerful enough to enter it.
