I bought a Macintosh; my first pre-PowerPC mac I've ever had. Local from craigslist. Performa 630CD, came with Apple Performa Plus CRT display, 2 keyboards, 2 mice, an ADB cable, a 540MB external LaCie SCSI hard drive, and a slew of boxed software (games, autocad, etc.).

I broke the top cover and some other bits of plastic unfortunately. Didn't realize how brittle they were.

oh man, what a system to cut your teeth on. Lucky for you those systems have little value. so feel free to experiment. And for the record, the plastic was made of eggshells. I've considered investing into a high quality 3d printer to make the litany of plastic crap ass parts for macs.

Nope, thats a miro hiscore 6MB Voodoo. It uses a proprietary passthrough cable.

Even better. Might go into my P133 build then. 😁

If you get the passthrough cable for the miro card, I'd be quite interested into getting a pinout of it : my card misses it ...

The cable is not included, but since it's a passthrough port, finding the pin out should be very easy by measuring the pins against the VGA connector. Might only work when the system is powered, however. I'll let you know since I have to build the cable myself anyway.

I really like it came with all those accessories and software! Gonna try to load up a fresh install.

Purchased new L2 cache on mouser.com (128k x 8 20ns 32-pin 5v, 32k x 8 28-pin 15ns 5V IDT brand), and going to order the rest on eBay (32k x 8 28 pin 15/20ns 5V, 64k x 1 15ns 22 pin, and 70ns 256k x 16 ZIP for the video card). Can't wait to do benchmarks between 1MB and 2MB Video RAM, 0KB, 128KB, and 512KB L2 cache for games and stuff.

Look forward to any findings you might share. The more the merrier

vram also wont matter UNLESS you're particular card does memory interweaving.

Is a NEC 22" Multisync FP2141SB considered retro? I'm hoping to pick it up for $20 (boom baby!) tomorrow and it'll replace my 20" HP CRT that will take a fortune to repair.

I've got an almost identical (In fact I think it's completely identical) LC630CD - mine came with a Apple Multiple Scan 15 monitor.

I think mine has 20MB of RAM and a 6 GB hard drive, clearly upgraded by someone who was using it for accounting, as an install of MYOB Accounting was still on the drive when I got it.

That's pretty sweet; didn't know you could upgrade the hard drives to that much!

Heck yeah.. Been after one of these for a while but can never find one local. These are heavy bastards so shipping kills it.

From what I understand, with the Quadra/Performa/LC 630 series, Apple went with IDE for the Hard Drive Controller instead of SCSI. The CDROM is still SCSI, but I think you can use pretty standard IDE hard drives (at least sizes from around 94-96) on the 630 series.

That said, there's some limitation regarding partition size dependent on what version of Mac OS you decide to use - some only support 2 or 4 GB partitions, and some have issues above 8GB even if they'll let you install to drives larger than that.

SoundBlaster 2.0 CT1350B, perfect for one of my 386 machines, not decided if it'll go into the sx or dx yet.
