So I'm guessing that's a no, on posting pics of vintage Non-PC components, huh? (Supercomputer PCBs, SGI Infinite Reality, SUN stations, Router/Switch boards, Line Cards, Console PCBs, and the like)

Just as well, I guess. 😒

I'd love to see pics of stuff like that

Thinkpad A22m (P3-M 1GHz, 512MB PC100, 60GB HDD, Ati Rage Mobility-M1, Dual Sound Cards Intel AC97 & Crystal Soundfusion 4624). The OS is a heavily patched Windows 98SE (98lite Sleek Install, NUSB 3.3, USP 3.57, 98SE2ME, SH95UPD, Kernelex, and 98MP10)

Hey all.

I've been collecting these kinds of OEM patterns for awhile now and stumbled across your thread.

http://cs.gettysburg.edu/~duncjo01/archive/patterns/

http://cs.gettysburg.edu/~duncjo01/archive/patterns/OEM/

The patterns/tiles were sourced from here, ex-vtc, and a ton of other random old OS ISO's and places around the 'net (mostly through the internet archive). Enjoy.

GOLDMINE!!! Thanks, been looking for some of those old-style marble textures for a while 😀

you are most welcome.

Right regarding my request - this is what I was talking about:

asus-a7n8x-deluxe-bios-post13.png

I need a quality screen capture from the post screen of a 286 / 386 / 486 / pentium machine to make a wallpaper out of. I could kind of use that, but it need a lot of modding because I don't want USB devices, 40gig HDD's and alike showing up.

Any of you have a decent VGA capture device and an older PC to make a few snaps for me? I'd like to complete clueless1's wallpaper request.

A year but a few days later 🤣
I wanted such a screenshot myself for completely different reasons. When I finally got around it, it stroke me... wait, didn't I read in the past that someone else was also after one?
It's from a screen capture utility on a real 386, stored in uncompressed BMP. I only edited out the footprint of running the capture utility.

Care to mention which screen capture utility you used?

Sup. I like computers. Are you a computer?

Nah it's a secret.
Of course, it's called "Snarf" (Thundercats anyone?) http://pixelmetrics.com/Snarf/index.htm
It's nothing special. I used it because installing the TSR outputs only 1 line of text so the screen doesn't scroll. It requires a 386 though, I'm still after something that can capture MDA/Hercules AND runs on a 8088.

I stumbled on to this image while hunting through my decade-old "My Documents" folder:

Which got me thinking that surely we have some awesome vintage hardware themed wallpapers in our archives.

So what are you waiting for? Share them!! 😁

I just got a Toshiba T5200 "laptop"... I wonder how that logo would look in 16 shades of orange? 🤣

I use some of my close up photos from my site as wallpapers:

kernel-llc-background-4-300x181.jpg

kernel-llc-background-3-300x190.jpg

kernel-llc-background-2-300x180.jpg

kernel-llc-background-1-300x180.jpg

Theyare wonderful! Do you have more? Can I use them on my blog as headers? I do not run ads or anything, totally personal blog on dedicated domain/storage that I pay with my own money. So I won't get money for using them.

Great posts you guys! I like to find genuine 90s wallpapers so I can use them on the appropriate machines of those times. This link has a lot of very 90s PC wallpapers to check out. https://www.flickr.com/photos/textfiles/sets/ … 157664851135170
Though they don't pertain to 90s hardware or OEM setups. Basically its a lot of abstract art and photos with either slight or severe image effects. Just something a user might have had back in the day if they wanted to customize their Windows experience. 😉

Getting a screenshot on a real MDA would be impossible, there is no access to the framebuffer. Best case you could dump the contents of the screen to a text file.

I mean, you could subsequently run that text file against a dump of the character ROM, but you don't need a real MDA to do that.

At that stage, you could use Bochs or this and get the results you want for any system you can imagine.

Fuck this has got to be the most ugly bunch of wallpapers I've ever seen. Where is this from it's too tacky to be an American software release. 🤣

Check me out at Transcendental Airwaves on Youtube! Fast-food sucks!

Wow, this is fantastic! If anyone has any other posters or images similar to this (with cutaway views of hardware) please post them! I love stuff like this.

Technically NOT wallpaper...yet.

I am working on recreating Windows 9x / 2000 logos in vector format to create custom Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows 2000 wallpapers and splashscreens. If anyone is interested in the vector logos, I am happy to share them. Please bear in mind these were created using Illustrator CC, and might not be compatible with older versions of Illustrator. You'll also need to have the Franklin Gothic font family installed.

Whenever I share a vector file that requires non-standard (or non-free) fonts, I always convert the text into outline strokes (which turns it from editable text into vector paths) so anyone I share it with doesn’t need the font. Just a tip I thought I’d share. Otherwise, it’s looking good. 😀
