The box is a general one, that's why there's that checkbox in the upper right corner, telling you which speed it actually is.

Not too familiar myself, but that sound card looks like either an SB Vibra 16 (if ISA) or SB 64 PCI.

In any event it's almost certainly not in original condition, given that second parallel port. I'm intrigued by the network (?) card above the sound card. Maybe it's just an odd photograph, but that doesn't look like BNC to me. Also the bracket above that - SPDIF out or FM radio card...?

As far as I can tell from a teardown of the system the video card is a Riva 128 and the sound card is an AWE64 Value. The network card is a later add on apparently, a replacement for the PCI modem it came with. The rest of the cards are mysterious, no idea what the second LPT port (or is it an ISA SCSI card?) is doing there but I have a feeling the card on top is an FM radio card.

Pretty sure the sound card is a Turtle Beach Montego AU8820.

It's a Pentium II of some sort, can't read the blue label on top, but it would indicate the processor speed (eg. Dimension XPS D333 is a Pentium II 333MHz).

RAM is PC66 SDRAM, max is 384MB (3x128MB). AGP + PCI + 2xISA ATX mobo.

Oooh that means the unidentified card is not an FM Radio card but actually a Quadzilla SP/DIF daughtercard for the Montego!

Just got a SB16 CT2230 Revision 49432 (the last and best revision). Need to find a CT1748A chip to fit in the socket. It looks a lot better than the photo 😀

Got a Quantum Fireball ST 3.5 series 6.4GB HDD, a Western Digital 10GB HDD, and a Samsung SyncMaster 2333SW 23" monitor (1920×1080) for $40 altogether.

I found a 40x IDE CDROM Drive in box that has never opened. I also bought a Amptron 14" CRT in box -- water damged. I've never heard of this brand, but the bubble screen is nice and it's really light compared to my 17" Viewsonic.

From someone that has used a few dozen socket7 and SS7 boards in my lifetime, including some that are supposedly "the best", that is my all-time favorite one. Used it for years with no issues. Had a K6-3+ @600 on it. Beast of a system...oh around 17-18 years ago 😀

What's more interesting is that Amptron made (or sold branded) CRTs. I thought they only did crappy motherboards.

Picked up a Compaq branded ESS Audiodrive (ES1869) for next to nothing. Waiting for delivery now.

Anyone happen to know if those are full featured, or if they're crippled some way compared to non-OEM-branded ones? Noticed the "Waveblaster header" was missing, but might be enough to solder in a pin header?

I totally agree with your line of thinking - that's why I've gotten meself two (also, they have Highscreen logo, so they'll go nicely with my Highscreen build):

If I had, I've forgotten. 😀 But I do recall PCchips.

I just realized that this monitor doesn't have any brightness controls, so I'm going to probably have to open it up to see if I can find those little knobs. I like the size of the monitor, it's just washed out compared to my Viewsonic, -- which has a great picture. It also has a built in speaker amp -- which requires a separate power adapter. And on the back, I think the line-in was mislabeled mic-out. And the VGA and power cable are attached to the monitor, something I've never encountered.

EDIT. I just found out how to adjust the contrast and brightness, so now the picture looks great all bubbly.
