I am using Dell M70 for similar purposes. It's got slightly lower resolution (1680x1050), but also very crisp screen. I use it as compact Windows XP era gaming machine (Morrowind, Serious Sam, Jade Empire, etc.).

The id anthology reminds me of when in the late 90s/early 2000s they released a CD that had every one of their games on it and if you wanted different ones, you bought the key from them to unlock. I actually bought a box of these disks as you'd normally see the box on the counter at computer stores and just grab one for a couple bucks. Somewhere, I have that box, as I seem to recall selling them on campus when in university. Was forever ago and my memory is crap. 😀

Not really retro itself, but related! The final piece I was waiting for to come in to connect my MT-32. A local music shop I deal with regularly showed these (surprisingly!) in their inventory, but from their Winnipeg location. Ordered. Told 10 business days to arrive at the location I deal with. Nothing. The Winnipeg store couldn't actually find them. Fortunately, their Vancouver store did, and it was sent on its way. Three weeks total, I now have it in my hands, and after a lot of farting around, have the MT-32 up and running! Yesss!

Got me this for a small sum. I know someone who wants to trade their 6x86 PR233 against this card. You reckon it's worth the trade? I already have a 9800 Non-Pro and an X1950PRO AGP.

There are issues with this board; legs 100-105 of the northbridge were badly bent and shorted, so I straightened them. Leg 105 is also seperated from the PCB so that will require some solder touchup, no big deal.

The major problem I have, though, is that the resistor network that is supposed to be plugged in to RN6/7/8 to determine cache amount is gone, missing. Does anyone know what the rating of that RNA should be? I've checked and most of the RNAs on the board are either A 103 G or B 100 G..

From what I can gather it's a B 8000 J? Can anyone confirm this is not a crazy value for this component?

Looks like 8B000J
Don't use just me for reference, but for resistor networks the marking can be interpreted as follows:
8=number of resistors
B=some manufacturer-specific code
000= value of each resistor (00 followed by 0 zeros ohms)
J=tolerance, J usually means 5% (what is 5% of zero? 😀)
i.e. the resistor network may be just a shunt. But check what other people think too. Don't lose the magic smoke just because I said that.

Yes, a piece of wire that connects all 8 holes. If I were to make it, I'd get some standard pin contacts like these:


..and solder a wire across 8 of them, then plug the other end in.

Normally the resistor network would be something like 10KOhms. I wouldn't necessarily use a bridged jumper array to replace it, as that may either waste a lot of power or burn something out, or prevent other components from being able to reliably pull down the logical lines these are pulling up.
