The voodoo card was in a shitty condition (Literally. Had to give it a good clean to get rid of the smell) and 2 capacitors were missing. Soldered them on today.

Got a Sony USB FDD MPF88E (2005) and an older (2009) InWin BL647 case today. Case has a floppy slot so is sorta retro and a Intel DG41RQ motherboard inside that works which is not retro but has possibilities. Also got a microsoft optical wheel mouse that is usb and ps/2 compatible, tested and does work on ps/2. Mouse cost 82 cents because of senior discount 🤣, Just not much real retro stuff in my area lately.....

I'm looking at some of those ebay scrap piles you people get to bid on, and I can't help but envy the choice and abundance you have..

I don't quite envy the prices you pay though 😁

The EGA card is a Diamond Flower EG-1000 256kb. As far as the feature connector -- yea I have no idea what that is. It says "EGA ... something" on it. Very small board, so who knows. I'll definitely report what I find since it seems interesting. I know some people had feature cards attached there to recombine/create sync on green for one of the composite outputs.

You are right with that. I also have too much to test it all. I see this as Investment in the Future. I assume in 10 years or so you will not find these parts from the 80s/early 90s anymore, even in scrap lots. Maybe then I will have more time than now and already have enough things to play with in storage...

^this, unfortunately I did not keep all the hardware I ever had, and a lot of it that I collected got thrown out by my parents at some point too 🙁
I've been buying little things on and off for the last 20 years (which in turn has partly been thrown out again as mentioned)... but it's only been in the last years that I actually really got back into old hardware (probably also in part because I'm so fed up with new stuff).
and even just in that year prices have risen sharply for pretty much everything... so I've kind of fallen into the mindset that I should simply get everything I can now... so I have a vast collection to play around with for the decades to come, not just for choice, but also for spare parts if I ever need them.
things don't seem to get cheaper anytime soon and they'll also get more and more scarce as companies have thrown out most of the hardware from that era by now, the huge hauls from past times are probably still going to happen in a lost warehouse here and there, but probably less and less... and it's not like I'm ever part of that anyways.

my current approach to collecting is a little bit like "get one of everything" ^^

I try to keep my hardware at a certain inventory level; I have around 3-4 motherboards for 386, 486, 586, Socket 7, Slot 1, Socket 370 and Socket/Slot-A platforms, and then around 5-10 CPUs for each socket type. I try to limit my collection to roughly 5-10 graphics cards and 20-30 sound cards per bus type (ISA/VLB/PCI/AGP). As I keep finding better and more interesting stuff, I sell off the more mundane and common things in my collection. Often selling off more common stuff I bought a few years ago can pay for the occasional cheap rare find.

The huge hauls are going to keep happening, but they will be for P4 and Athlon64, Xeon and Opteron stuff. Not for 1980s. Well, mostly.

And yeah, the things I've thrown out or given away... the stuff I offloaded when I moved from house with cellar and shed to small appartment without storage would be enough to buy me a very nice holiday or pay for the degree course I'm doing now.

This Yamaha FB-01 (basically same as IBM Music Feature Card - just in form of midi module). Very nice condition too (one of the front panel corners is just a bit dented, but other than that no scratches/cracks).

Check the battery sometime. And those were soldered onto the board (no idea why). I have one myself connected to my 486 with my MT-32 and Yamaha DB50XG (connected to a CHiLL board).

Yup. Easy to find. Just not at a decent price.

This is one picture of a 12kg lot I won. Only the last picture got my attention, the remainig parts are totally uninteresting.
This seems to be from a Apple II. Not what I am collecting, but the highest bidder before I won that auction was a scrapper (identified because he already bought some lots I sorted out...).
So I am happy to have saved this from being destroyed and get most of my investment back by selling the remaining 11.5 kg again...

people actually buy scrap lots to... scrap them? 😮

I've always wondered this when I saw 20kg lots sell for a lot of money with nothing interesting in them.
