Nice. At my workplace we need to be accountable towards the IT department with our PC stuff. For full PCs and laptops I have to give something to take something. Which is generally some broken trash brand PC I find somewhere, with a hair dryer take the barcode sticker off of the 'valuable retro PC' and stick it onto the trash. If it's old stuff they'd dispose of anyway they don't care even if it's just an empty case with some thrown in broken garbage.

We have a similar system at my place, when your workstation is 3-4 years old you can buy it of the for £30, a good deal. But these are ancient so I hope they are not on any assett register, we live in hope. 😀

I have news from above. It went, "where did you find them?" "Yeah, I don't think anybody will miss them." 😀 This is after me grabbing a Slot 1 Celron PC the other month from here too(that was free also) that I am turning into a DOS 7.1 gaming beast. Not much left for me to pic over now unless I want and old Integrity server to play with OpenVMS. 😁

no, fix 60Mhz clock 😒 and runs with 120 MHz.

Solder works to change of oscillator is needed.
But, new owner could change oscillator. I didn't keep this computer, but i keep PODP5V133.

- MSI (OEM for MEDION) MS-V133 Ver:2.0 (nVidia GeForce 9500GS)
- all from the MEDION PC with the label from the 2nd image

- industrial mini MB within a 19" rack

- HP ProLiant DL380 G5, unfortunately w/o HDDs

- HP ProLiant DL380 G7, unfortunately w/o HDDs

Maybe and hopefully I can get a hand on the server's HDDs...

Yesterday I found this beauty on the street:

I've never encountered a Socket A board with an ISA slot outside of the Internet. Couldn't see the socket, because it was behind the PSU (rotated by 90°), so I assumed it is Socket 370. Three bulged caps. I think it's worth to try a repair.
Case was badly beaten up. Front was missing. Front of the two CD/DVD drives plus Floppy drive as well. Side panel was broken open, with the screws still in place. I guess someone who came along broke it open, to see what's inside.
RAM, HDD and PCI cards were missing. But I assume they were removed by the previous owner, since the person who broke the case obviously didn't have a screewdriver. Interestingly there never was a AGP card in this machine. Only the bottom two slots were used.

Last week I found a Core 2 Quad on the streets.
Drives, cards, RAM and PSU were missing. Board, CPU, cooler and cardreader were all that was left. CPU was a Q6600, just as I expected. Board was some crappy OEM one with bulged caps. That one is gonna go straight into recycling.

Some time ago I found this machine:

Board is broken. Didn't test the CPU yet. Everything else is fine.
The HDD is in very good condition. Rarely used. No damaged sectors.

I really envy those of you who can go dumpster diving for hardware.
In Krautland this is a crime. Not kidding. Only legal way is to grab stuff that has been illegaly dumped.
Even dumpster diving for food is a crime here. There is a large leftist scene who is trying to drag attention to this antiquated law. In the past food chains like Aldi tried to drag these activists to court. But it didn't go well for them, because of the public outrage. People are more shocked by the fact, that Aldi and co destroy good food instead of donating it to the food banks, than by the fact that people are "stealing" this food.

We get refurbished ones bought for work if its not important data, usually the 300GB ones are quite cheap and last a lifetime due to them being enterprise level. Anything over that gets expensive quick.

We have all these HDDs at work within special e-waste (a key is needed to access the room [I know sb. with a key and had a view]), but I have to ask for advanced permission to take them. I saw a original HP 900 GB SAS HDD f.e. - this would be great. I should write an e-mail to the CEO...

is Aldi worried that everyone will just hang around the back until things are nearly out of date instead of buying as normal? I can understand that it costs more to organise nearly out of date stuff for food banks but it is also cheap advertising if people know about it

i wonder also about dumpster diving as crime but i think it's either considered state property or a risk with identity theft or avoidance of liability if you hurt yourself, or a big mix of it all

worst thing must be to see a great PC being shoved into a dumpster knowing that once the lid is down you cannot legally get it! 🙁

Don't throw away the top part with the detachable fan. The bearing on these is easily accessible and can be replaced.

They exist but only for KT133/A and earlier I think. I have one Slot-A and one Socket-A with ISA slots. DMA works 100% fine.

If there are KT266/KM266 boards with ISA slot, I have yet to see any.
