I had a nice system turn up today. I don't normally buy full systems, but this looked in great conditions and the parts looked to be really good also.

Its a Dan Mini Tower Intel 486 DX2 66mhz built in '94

Intel 486 DX2 66mhz
20mb ram (8x30pin Simm Modules)
Asus isa-486sv2 Rev 3.10 VLB motherboard (battery removed, no apparent damage)
Sound Blaster 16 CT-2830 SB16IDE (Genuine OPL3 onboard)
Promise VLB IDE Controller with 4mb cache
345MB Hard Disk
Cirrus Logic AcuMos ISA VGA Board
Serial/Parallel Card
Logitech Mouse Controller
Panasonic CD-Rom

Case is in lovely condition for its age. I've always liked these upside down towers. Bezel on the CD-ROM is yellowed so will try and sort that out.

I will upgrade the VGA Card to a Cirrus Logic VLB one i have and maybe fit a larger hard disk (1 or 2.1 gig)

The DX2 overdrive on the other hand is exactly the same as a normal LIF168 DX2.

Depends if the DX2 overdrive is ODP or ODPR.

It isn't exactly the same. It doesn't have test scan signals, different cpu id. I also believe that UP# pin is always driven low on overdrive chips even on ODPR.

Also overdrive chips are always write-through. Ordinary DX2 chips have write-back cache in certain sspecs.

Very nice. Now you just need to put Microsoft Bob on Dan.

I'm still always looking out for those inverted AT cases, but they always get crazy expensive.

that is not the same :p
the inverted cases have a very distinctive style, less tall, with the drive bays shifted to the side.

Back in the day, one of local pc stores that I worked at and many stores around used those fat and short towers with those plastic rails, these were specially made so drives is not loose when installed.

Cheers,

Great Northern aka Canada.

This is my favourite Baby AT case style, I hope one day I will find one nearby without having to pay 100€ for shipping.

Looks like it came from the same factory as this case, only a bit later 😀

I had one of those back in 1990’s
I never used it however because I did not have the hard drive rails.
I regret sending it to the recyclers.

Nice case.

I got a auzentech prelude and forte a couple of weeks and just got around to using them. The forte needs a heat sink because the rev.1 cards like to kill themselves.

My dad's 386SX 16MHz came in this case. That's the machine I gamed on for a loooong time 😀

I was very happy when I finally found this case again. I have two now...

It's not really retro but I bought a small mixer to plug all my PCs (modern and vintage) into it. Works a treat and helps to mitigate noise issues with old sound cards.

I was looking for a while too, stereo mixers are a rare breed, I've already got a behringer RX1602 but I finally found the one I was looking for at a local music store after multiple failed attempts on ebay, and its retro!
also some other stuff ...now I can get some more midi modules :3

Very cool. Do you know if this card can access the OPL4 for GM music from DOS?
