This is a Cyrix 5x86, so one of the fastest 486-platform CPUs, if not the fastest clock-for-clock. The IBM parts were known to have been binned lower/more conservatively, so frequently will run faster than advertised. You can try it at 3x40MHz = 120MHz. It might work...

Note that the 5x86 comes with some features disabled by default. They improve performance but can affect stability. Here's a tool to enable them:

A very, very late VLSI 82C311L single-chip 286/386SX chipset.

It's a bit scratched up - so may need some repairs here and there with some kynar wire, and there are some jumpers that are bent and may need replacing, but nothing that it looks like it can't be fixed, and no visible battery leakage, which is the main thing.

20Mhz. Nice! There is something special to me about the 286. Love to see what it looks like after a wash/cleanup.

Bought a bunch of PGA132 sockets. Now taking courage to downgrade one of my 486 boards to 386....

Yeah the Cyrix was a 6x86 - i vividly remember reading PR133 and then seeing it also said 120mhz. I honestly thought it was a bit of a dodgy knockoff of a CPU because only Pentiums were spoke about at my school with no mention of a 686 (or 586 for that matter) and nobody I knew of heard of a cyrix.

Good news on the IBM 100mhz 😀 I'll have to plug it in to my existing setup tonight and have a go. I'm going to wait til the weekend before I start doing my RTC battery mod... the ebay seller said it was a socketed dallas RTC but he was a good liar 😮

Another project motherboard: a Gigabyte GA-486AM/S with a missing Dallas RTC (got a new one ready).

PR133 should be 2x55 = 110MHz. (funky bus speed requires a special motherboard)
PR150 should be 2x60 = 120MHz.

Yes, I'm really happy as well. Had bought couple items for reasonably price during past 3-4 months, especially these K6's and 233 MMX.

May have gotten addicted to that Russian auction site....

Just bought a PC-Chips M321 386DX-40 and a UMC UM82C480 for peanuts. Both of them have what looks like minor battery leakage... but it was worth a chance for £8 and £9 a piece!

it's here, I still have no idea what it is exactly though ^^
my bet is still on SB 1.0 clone, but I sure wish I'd know more about it ^^ hope I will get around to testing it this week.
if anyone got any pointers as to who made this card any info is welcome :3

Yeah now i'm really not totally sure of the details but i would go so far as to say it was the PR120 / 100mhz. we got the PC in '96 and it wasn't an expensive one. maybe the 120 i remember was the PR and not the actual clock.

I have just tested out this IBM 5x86 100mhz CPU and did a few benchmarks vs the AMD 486 100mhz WT I had in this PC.

AMD-
3dbench: 58.1fps
Chris' bench: 37.4fps
Doom: 32.9fps

IBM-
3dbench: 66.3fps
Chris' bench: 37.8fps
Doom: 33.4fps

AT tower (Socket 3 board) is missing the cpu and ram but has everything else, including a CT2230, Cirrus VESA and the Creative interface drive. Freetech 486f39x board inside (will take pictures of it soon)

That was my first computer case with a 486dx-33 back in 1993.
It was a custom multimedia build from a computer builder in Silicon Valley and it cost me about $2300

Got this cpu today in the mail
Mobile Intel 486 DX2-50 SB80486DX2-50 SX920

Got some stuff from local auctions.

Got a Opti 82C925 based sound card for around 5€.

Then a PCI S3Trio64V+ with lots of memory expansion sockets. 11€

Then a very curious 386 motherboard with cache and 72pin memory! 😮 15€

And a basis for my "higher-end" pentium 2 class machine. 15€
A ChainTech 6ESA2 motherboard, which has ISA, PCI and AGP slots and has integrated ESS Solo-1 sound card.
I didn't know it before i got it, but it also had one of the most desirable Slot1 celeron - Celeron 300A. Definitely will try to overclock it.

On top of all, i got a Parallel ZIP drive for 10€. Never had one, but now i do.

Will be fun times ahead. Currently everything is ripped apart and being cleaned or soaked in vinegar.

The chip is indeed for use of the Sega Saturn Light Gun with a PC monitor, AFAIK
