for retro games its 98SE it just works providing you dont mess around installing pointless shit which breaks the OS much like M.e, my first pc had 95 so i do feel nostalgic for it but 98SE is just an enhanced version will better compatibility especially when it comes to usb support, i never had 98 back in the day as i went straight to an M.e pc my dads friend built for me, it worked great and lasted a good few years, i dont know why people shit on M.e, the only downside was lack of compatiblity for dos games and that wierd transition period when games would either be 9x or 2000 compatible.

for later OS it was always XP, when vista first released it was broken as most programs from xp were incompatible so i went back to XP, until vista got fixed, i really do love that Aero theme, when windows 7 released it was the same crap when vista first came out, it was incompatible with most programs i'd been using on XP/vista, so i went back to vista for a few more years before reluctanly switching to win7, the only thing i didnt like was microsoft moving things around like in control panel and in the menu bar. etc, this was one of my main gripes with win10, they had already had things pretty well laid out with win7, ignoring the joke that was win8 which led to 8.1, with the 10 layout they just decided to completely fuck shit up, i have to admit i do like the look of win11, it had that same fresh feel as the first time i installed vista, tho the hardware requirement are a joke, after windows 8, the messing with the layout of win 10, its just not funny anymore, and now the rumours win12 will be subscription based, its over for microsoft! they've completely screwed their customers for many years due to pure greed, and people probably wont stand for it much longer, you want people to buy your products you give them what they want not what you want.

TLDR; i use 98SE and win7 SP1

also theres an LCARS theme for rainmeter, only tried it out once, i feel i need a large touchscreen imbedded in my wall to make good use of it.

U expressed all very well.
Just to add to LCARS,I would so love having an LCARS version with full connection to various sensors & other IoT devices, for example to automatic start of Red Alert from fire/smore detectors,Intruder Alert & so on with both, sound & graphical alerts on the house/apartment map showing the endangered section,or for example say "Emergency power engaged",when running on UPS & false autodestruct countdown to scare intruders & make them run away...
...& yes,I would also appreciate an EMH...

in the early 2000's i liked win98se best, after that i liked XP best, now i think i like win 7 best.

I don't dislike any dos or windows version especially though (well, i would skip windows 😎

for linux i like Linux Mint, not because i have strong opinions about other distributions but because it seems to work on lots of hardware configurations, isn't excessively demanding for performance and yet is just fine for most online stuff

No.
Praise the original opinion, intellectuality & boldness...That person boldly wrote an unpopular opinion...& this is the opinion poll,so no1 shall be attacked for personal opinion or preference.
I was afraid,I will c just endless repeating of few most beloved OSs & it is very refreshing, when som1 has a really original vote/preferences.
For now it is the 2nd most interesting vote just after that,som1 voted for own self-writed OS.
Thanx to such intellectuals life is not boring.

Relax, it was just a joke.

Anyway, it's perfectly normal to see endless repeating of few choices in such polls.
That's how the Gaussian distribution works: majority of products are average, some are below average, some are above average - with only a small number of them at the very top.

I hoped,it is a joke, but I was often a target of bullying, thus I was worried, that person may feel being under attack or so,or it may scare other intellectuals with non-standard opinions, thus I tried to express a welcome for non-standard opinions, because I am curious to them & yes,it is normal, most will be some known repeating answers & it will be interesting between equally strong versions, but I love curiosities & I ALSO wish to have uncommon choices included, thus I dislike to have any1 scared, because then we will miss some interesting non-standard opinions, just because some1 will feel like "I love DOS 8,but I will rather not write it,because it is so unpopular,every1 will ridicule me." & we will never know,som1 also love DOS 8,or...bigger surprise would be,if som1 would love Windows 10,in that case I would be suspicious,it is a Microsoft employee or an AI,but still I love surprises,so for example so much Windows 2000 votes...nice surprise,or a single ME vote,surprise...If "heretics" would be scared away,we will not get another interesting surprises...
So I would wish...Burn CDs/DVDs/BDs,not heretics.

that would be awesome having an integrated computer system for your house especially a voice activated one, also wish majel barrett would have done a satnav voice over, i've thought about ripping audio from from episodes and doing it myself but it would be a mammoth task with Ai where its now at it would be more of a possibility for any missing commands, also would love to have a house modelled to look like the enterprise from TNG.🤣

I also wish to have TNG/VOY UFP designed house...except the basement, that I wish in Borg design to scare some visitors...
But for this we should establish a new tread?
Where it would fit?
Topics like Star Trek/sci-fi OSs or Assimilate Your house/apartment...?

...to continue our mission to seek out strange new OSs,games & other forms of SW,boldly install, which no1 installed b4...

Ok, I decided. I'll vote for KolibriOS, just because it's somehow useful GUI OS, written in assembly, FOSS and its main components fit on a single floppy disk. It also doesn't fall into any of the categories of this poll.

Windows 2000 is the best.
Mobile OSs are pretty meh.
Multitasking OSs without memory protection are also kind of meh.

The DOS category is full of things that do their job well enough that it's hard to say which is really better. I've mostly used MS-DOS 6.0, but DR-DOS, FreeDOS, DOS/V, Human68K, and EmuTOS could also be interesting options. CP/M is fun to play with because of how portable and simplistic it is.

ArcaOS looks interesting but I don't like the EULA.

DOS

Do U feel all versions of DOS equal?
All the way from CPM prototypes with FAT8 only all the way up to FreeDOS 1.4 not excluding MS-DOS 8.0 ?
Because if U wrote just "DOS",U just added equal votes for all DOSes...including MS-DOS 4.0, 4.01 & 8.0 & also for 1.x & earlier,which cannot be installed on a hard drive,nor even c it...
If U really love all DOSes equally,Your vote counts as 1 of the most original 1s & U also have a record for shortest answer.

Thanks - now I can put 00h into AL, 4ch into AH and thus leave the thread properly with an int 21h.

Prettiest GUI: Tie between OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) and Windows 7

Most Stable OS (for me): Windows 2000

Most Nostalgia: DOS 6/Windows 3.1x (Windows NT 3.x has the same GUI)

Most Unique GUI: BeOS

Easy. DOS 6.22 and Windows 9x (95c OSR2.5 and 98SE). Those are my top 3. 😀

Modern systems, Win 10 is fine, and I use Ubuntu on all my non-Windows systems.

Oh god... 🙄

Anyway, I tend to judge operating systems purely by their gameability these days. My needs are stupid simple, and like most folks, I don't really enjoy using a computer unless I happen to be playing a game on one. I'd have to say that Windows 98SE, XP, and 11 are my current favourites, as having one of each lets me play every PC game I've ever purchased, from Magic Carpet on DOS to the Spider-Man 2 that I downloaded a few weeks ago!

Don't blow my cover! 😜

Like I said in the other thread, Win 10 works fine for me, very few issues with it. Honestly, over the years, I only have two MS Windows versions that ever really got under my skin. That was ME and 8. ME I used on some of my personal systems, Win 8 was at work only, and I vowed to never let it touch any of my personal systems. haha

I'm serious with the ME response BTW. I'm not part of the 'me suck's bsod all time install Xp luna is the best' brigade. It's so good it doesn't even need a "service pack" made for it. Like what are you going to do, put Me dlls into Me? The problems it has are mutual with the whole 9x lineup. The 'new annoyances' are also found in beloved Windows 2000 and XP.

I was over pure dos gaming by the time I mained Win95 in ~96 anyway, so the boot-to-dos loss is nothing.
