To whom it may concern: with the latest AEP CVS build (dosbox_16.06.2007.exe), the game finally works! wd, thanks for fixing the problem.

Btw, the Amiga version got a rating of 32% in the mag Amiga Power in February '95.

VOGONS Mods: maybe the thread title should be changed a bit. The game's correct name is "Player Manager 2 Extra", and the problem is "solved".

Hello guys,

I googled the

---------------------------------
the Illegal command: mode
CD not found - terminating

Program terminating!
--------------------------------

error message, and this thread has been the sole result. 😦

I'm referring to the game "Willi Lemkes Fußballmanager" by Anco, which seems to be the german version of "Player Manager 2 extra".

setup:

wl1mc2.jpg

after rem mode (GO.Bat) with a FakeCD folder:

wl2hx8.jpg

after echo... + set PATH...:

D:\Manager>

Just the same as with PM2, I also tried the dosbox_16.06.2007.exe and the latest which is dosbox_28.06.2007.exe, but I don't get this thing running.

😒

As I read the previous pages, the fix for this problem only applies to drives mounted with the imgmount command, and not when mounting a folder as an CD. So you need to make an image of you CD, imgmount it, and then try one of the experimental builds.

Ok, got it. It still comes up with the "mode command" error, but then it jumps into the main menu. Thanks for your help.

that mode command just clears the screen, not that vital

Great that it has been solved!
Now I can play the game, and indeed, it only plays with the imgmount command.

But it seems that whenever I save a game, shutdown dosbox, and later on start dosbox again, the saved games have disappeared...

My mistake,

When I started the game tomorrow, the saved game was there again 😀

Hey guys, first of all sorry for bringing up this old topic again. I seem to be having the exact same problem with my attempts to start this game up but I cannot get it fixed.

Reading through the previous reactions it seems that the problem can be fixed by using the imgmount command. Here's what I am doing:

- I've created an ISO of my CD.
- I imagemount the ISO and mount C:Dosbox to install it.
- I try to run the game with one of the experimental builds from http://builds.tharos-online.de/
- After the intro I'm getting a "CD not found - terminating" message.

What I am doing wrong?

Any help would be really appreciated!

Please post the exact mountings you use when installing the game,
how you installed it, and how the mountings look like when you play
the game.

Here is what I'm doing:

- imgmount e e:\pm2extra.iso -t iso
- mount c c:\Dosbox\
- install the game in directory c:\PM2EXTRA\
- type pm2 (which is required to start up the game)

The intro will start up and after that the message "cd not found - terminating" appears.

Delete the PM2EXTRA in the c:\dosbox directory, and start over but use
imgmount d e:\pm2extra.iso -t iso
(note the d).

Then install the game and DO NOT exit dosbox, but change to the c-drive,
change into the pm2 directory where you installed it (post a screenshot
of that if possible) and run the game.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I've attached some screenshots. After I've mounted the drives and typed 'install' the installation screen appears. The installation path is: C:\PM2EXTRA\ but on my HD I can find it under C:\Dosbox\PM2EXTRA\ , I take it this is because I've mounted C:\Dosbox?

When the installation is done I get the message 'type PM2 to play' and the directory is automatically set to C:\PM2EXTRA\, is this what you mean by changing to C: drive? Or should I change it to C:\Dosbox\PM2EXTRA\? If so, I don't know how to change from C:\PM2EXTRA\ to C:\Dosbox\PM2EXTRA\ after the installation. 😢

Also, on page 2 you've said that: "The problem (cdrom check) is fixed in the cvs btw", I've downloaded todays build from http://builds.tharos-online.de/, does todays build still solve the cdrom check issue?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, exactly.

and the directory is automatically set to C:\PM2EXTRA\, is this what you mean by changing to C: drive?

The installation did this already for you, so that should be fine. Be sure you
have a close look at how it looks at that point, the displayed current path
prompt is C:\PM2EXTRA> and it has to look like this when you want to
play the game (so it matches the installation configuration).
Right after the installation (redo the whole process if you want to be sure)
type PM2 like the installer says and check what happens.

does todays build still solve the cdrom check issue?

I guess so though i haven't tried it.

The C:\PM2EXTRA> I get after the installation is the same as the install path. When I enter PM2 the intro starts (can be seen on attached screenshots), when the intro is over and the actual game is supposed to load it comes up with the CD not found - terminating message.

The E: drive where the ISO file is on is a regular HD, not a CDrom drive or a virtual CDrom drive, is this a problem?

Earlier in this topic (on top of page 2) ADDiCT said that if the game has audio tracks I'd have to create a BIN/CUE image instead of an ISO image. When the intro loads I can hear sound/music and also when I look at the content on the CD there's a folder named sounds. Are they considered to be audio tracks/do I have to make a BIN/CUE image perhaps?

Thanks in advance!

Right, i've missed that, sorry. At least the current way you're performing
the installation/want to play the game is correct, just iso doesn't contain
any audio tracks (which the game is looking for). The SOUNDS folder is
unrelated to that.
So you should have better luck when replacing the iso-mounting with cue
sheet mounting.

Alright! The game seems to be working with cue sheet mounting!

Thanks for the help! Really much appreciated!

Hi, all!

Bumping this thread with a similar issue as jim25 had. That is, when I do all the mountings as above with iso-file, it still does not work. So I have made a Cue-fil of the player manager 2 cd-rom. But then I have problems anyway. I'd appreciate any input on this matter.

I've made a screenshot of a poor attempt. http://i29.tinypic.com/dmvi2x.png

It is probably clear from the above already, but I have virtually no experience with dosbox or even dos to begin with, so please have that in mind.

/David

Davmar, you write that you have moved some files to C:\PM2. Why? You should create a folder, mount the folder as C, mount the CD-image as D, and let the INSTALL.BAT move/copy/install whatever needs to be installed on the C-drive.

Minimax,

Thanks for the feedback.

you mean just any empty folder, like "dosbox" for instance?

new failing attempt - http://i32.tinypic.com/25tgv2w.jpg

Why does nothing happen when i type install or setup command? the dosbox just skips to the next row? this did not happen when I used an iso instead of a bin or cue-file. Then it worked until the typical "CD not found - terminating-message " occured after the intro.
