Nah, I do some console collecting. Used to have a Saturn and some pretty cool games (including the quite expensive Burning Rangers) and I regret selling it.

Now that's impressive!
I've got two Sapphire 7950's and the box is well impressive 😀

one of the games I sold was Albert Odyssey, made about £70 on it, very pretty game but mighty boring. of course I wouldn't sell Burning Rangers or Panzer Dragoon Saga for the reason that I still play those games, for me they are worth the money. I will say I got Panzer Saga before the price was super inflated like it is today. I don't think I would pay 150+ for a game, any game for that matter.
Here is my boxed collection (I've got more as jewel case)
I see some of the Sega PC games in there, those are quite interesting to me though Ive only got Sega Rally and Last Bronx in the jewel case.
how is Daytona on the PC? the Saturn original & CE editions were good, but I have to imagine the PC versions were at least a small improvement.
What's the reliability of commercial game floppy disks from the 1990s?

There are two versions of Daytona, pretty much like the Saturn version. Daytona USA Deluxe added D3D and is easily the better version. It does look far better than the Saturn, although nowhere near Model 2 quality.

Lol...it never does end for some of us 🤣...I am up to almost 400 boxed games in my collection and most of what I have acquired has been "in the wild" and from thrift stores (not much ebay at all).
BTW, props for building your own furniture...your shelves look good. I was thinking of doing the same, but I live very near to an IKEA store, and their BILLY bookcases are calling out to me...🤣...it's going to cost me a pretty penny to get all the shelves I need, but I think in the end it will be worth it to house and display all my boxes properly.
I didn't truly realize how many games I had until just last week when I moved out of my old place. I am currently in the process of setting up a dedicated 'games room' in my new place and realized I have to make a lot of shelf space for my boxed pc games...hopefully I'll have room for my Tandy Color Computer cartridges, Commodore 64, N64 (boxed), SNES, NES, Sega Genesis, Atari, and (boxed), PS2, XBOX (One), Intellivision, and whatever other games I have as well.
I have just set up a couple shelves with just my jewel case and small DVD box games and am in the process of getting large shelves for the majority of the big box games. I will post photos here when I am all done or maybe create another topic for it.
I have to say for me, part of the enjoyment of collecting old computer games in original boxes is being able to have them organized and displayed nicely so I can take a look at them once in a while. Also, I find that when I have the games visible and organized, I tend to play more often than if I just had them stashed away all over the place. It drives me a bit batty when I have my collection scattered around on random shelves, in boxes, and in storage...I am a bit OCD when it comes to my collection and I think part of it is because I have spent a lot of time and effort to acquire everything in my collection and I would be really disappointed if I lost something from it. I certainly play some games from time-to-time, but admittedly, I have not got to play even a third of the games I have in my collection yet! 😊 but I have started to get back into it and play a bit more...starting with many of the classics. I have been playing a bit of my console games lately like SNES and NES, but I always gravitate back to PC games.
There's a lot of great collections posted here! I especially love the big box Sierra and Lucasarts games I am seeing. I see that F2bnp and Darkman have some amazing titles like Grim Fandago, various Monkey Island titles and Full Throttle in the original box! I have been looking for those for a while now....can't seem to find anything on eBay for less than $50 + shipping (each) 😢 ...which is a bit too much for me to pay, but well worth it for someone that can afford it and if it is a copy in mint condition I guess.
I for one love seeing photos of peoples collection...I love topics like this. I hope to post some new pics of my collection soon.
Grim Fandango I actually got for basically nothing (less than the price of a cup of coffee), it was a 1 in a 100 deal , but I got it, the only issue with the box was , it was held together with tape, when I took the tape off (thankfully without damaging the box), the box fell apart. It wasn't torn or anything, but it was almost like the glue holding the box together had dried up . That was fixed with some reapplied glue and you have a near perfect Grim Fandango box.
sometimes you have to wait for months before you find a decent deal , heck Ive been looking for a copy of Jazz Jackrabbit CD for years and Ive only seen one on Ebay, and it went for some £90 (which is in the region of 160 dollars). Nor have I found a box for Starcraft Brood War , I have the game in a jewel case (stored along with the main game in the box) , but Ive yet to find a box for it, which is odd given its not exactly an unpopular game.
Very very true. I got Grim Fandango rather cheap as well, but it was in bad condition. I had to use tape to hold it together, but now it looks mighty fine. Certainly on the top 5 of my most favorite games of all time 😀.
Darkman, I can't believe how much stuff we have in common, I'm looking for Brood War as well AND Jazz Jackrabbit 1 as well 🤣 .
It really all comes down to getting good deals, which means being lucky. Here are a few stories:
- I was hanging out with my brother and I was telling him how pricey Heroes of Might & Magic 2 (we love that game) can be on eBay. He wanted to see, so we took a quick look and found a copy for 10 pounds + shipping. I instantly bought it.
- In my collection I have a rather odd title, Dink Smallwood. This was a limited release only, obscure Action RPG, that within a couple of years became freeware and was quite popular with an active modding community and whatnot. Boxed copies were insanely rare to find, but here comes this one dude in the UK that somehow has 2 sealed, boxed copies. I couldn't believe and the price was like 18 pounds, so I immediately snatched it.
- Unreal 2. I have mixed feelings about this game, but it reminds me of the DirectX 8.0 era, when PCs started to be powerful enough to produce some pretty stunning stuff and, at the time, vast draw distances (Morrowind players may laugh here 🤣 ). Anyway, I wanted a boxed copy, but I thought that it was released on these smaller boxes only. You know, those things that replaced big boxed releases around the early 00's? Anyway, found a copy for about 15$ shipped, thought it was a good deal and waited for it to arrive. And when it did, holy shit. I got a big box instead and it is glorious. I love the cover art for this game and the cover is anaglyphic too!
Whenever I get a new game, for a few seconds, I feel like a little kid again. Having my dad drive me to the store to get a new game, I can't believe he tolerated me hehehe 😊 . There's always a dark side in all of this though, once these few seconds pass you're left with an emptiness. I drool so bad looking at pictures of others peoples collections, but when I get the desired games I feel kinda meh after the first few minutes pass. That always makes me kinda sad. 😢
Here is what I can get to at the moment. Excuse the photos as it was done with my droid in poor lighting.
And finally, the books.
Ok I think you win. 🤣

Yes, this was something early FPS games didn't do well. It was all tunnels-and-corridors back then. Big open air areas were something new and memorable.
Actually this is something which impressed me about the Doom Aliens TC by Justin Fisher. There are several vast playable outdoor areas in that, something I hadn't seen before in any FPS game. Tho going back to it now, it's all pretty unremarkable.

Hah, I nearly went and photographed my collection, but after seeing some of these I don't think I'll bother. It's just embarrassing in comparison!

True to the chosen username, collector finally dropped the bomb. 😎 😀 (I knew it was coming...)
I'll just be an audience here for now, but this is somehow really inspiring. Keep it up guys!

thats because great minds think alike 😜
I think the best PC deal I ever found would be that Diablo box you see in my picture, I got it brand new, still sealed for £1, which was an insanely good deal given the game usually goes for 30-40 at least for a full boxed version. It was the US version incidentally , but I can't imagine there being much of a difference .
