Got my very first SB16 CT1740 with DSP v4.04 (no hanging note bug) and has a ASP/CSP chip as a bonus. Hopefully it's not too noisy.

Well, you can always recap them 😁

Not sure what the sound card is with the yellow and purple ports is. Maybe some sort of add-on for AN8.
Very nice find! Those Guru panels are quite rare! And it's in full working order!

The seller didn’t list it under “Vintage Computers” (like he usually does) so a lot of people wouldn’t have seen it. It had been listed for a couple of days. I came across it by accident while looking for another item. I grabbed it as soon as I saw it. There is a chance it may arrive tomorrow 😉 I’ll get some pictures when it arrives.

I suspect the noise would still be there to some degree even with a recap.
What’s strange is I installed a CT1330 today (not powered on for 30 years+). It was really noisy (as I was expecting) but the noise went away after 10 minutes. It’s like the capacitors needed to be warmed up.
Capacitors reform their oxide layers in use, or are supposed to anyway.

I can't convey how many times I've plugged in some old card only to have it appear "dead" and then spring back to life again after a few power cycles. I have always imagined it as having something to do with the capacitors.
The worst offender was a Radeon X800 that I could not get to work no matter how many power cycles. Then I just let it sit in the slot for a while, powered on, finally deciding that it was dead but wanting to try one more time. It came back to life after one more reboot and has been rock solid ever since.

You can reduce the noise by disabling the on-board amplifier via jumpers and using optimized mixer settings.
See this post by Cloudschatze for more details.
Heh optimised mixer settings... "Hey, isn't this track supposed to have a high hat?" *unoptimises mixer settings* tss .. tss .. tss "Ah, there it is."

got one of these. 939 dual vsta. I hope it's good. I heard it's good, but is it equal to nforce 3 and nforce 4?
Oh my g.... Someone just snipered a gorgeous open box 939 socket FX-57 for only 50$!!! Missed it by seconds.. (T.T) I know it was one of us!! Fess up! Lol

The fun part is, if you install them in a motherboard that has decent power filtering, these cards are generally not noisy.
Newer, better filtered, power supplies help as well.
Put them in a board that has no ot poor filtering and a period power supply and they are super noisy.

You might want to look into modding that Gravis if you don't like the DPad. PC gamers got shafted on gamepads during the 90s. I don't remember hating it as a kid, but my recent thrift store Gravis is borderline unusable for games that require diagonal input. I found a guide for the model I picked up, but haven't tried it yet:

Oh man I loved Sim Copter as a kid. What was the most fun was making a city in Sim City 2000 and then importing the save into Sim Copter and Streets of Sim City. Those were good times.

That Gravis is not gonna be a problem since I won't be opening that blister pack! I already have an opened/used one for my "everyday" early DOS gaming needs!

Man... it wasn't me, sadly.
An FX-57 would be great coupled with my old EPOX 9NDA3J nForce 3 Ultra board and an AGP 6800 Ultra. This system would represent the last time that a system with a single core CPU and an AGP slot could be considered near top of the line for gaming. At the time, if you did things slightly differently and waited a little longer on the GPU you could have had an X2 4800+ and a PCI-E 7800 GTX of course. Those were interesting times. 😁
Ain't me either. I already have a 939 x2 4600+ and a King Kong 7900GTX sitting dormant right now.
