10% off the total sale price including shipping. Then the seller also has to spend time and money for packaging materials and to package the items up. Then the seller has to spend money on gas and wear and tear on their vehicle to take it to the shipping company unless they have a scheduled pickup.

Then you have local and federal taxes to pay on these sales.

Items I bought for $1 a piece and sold for $27.50 each including shipping was only making me $5-7 a piece after taxes.

For the time I was putting into it, that is 1/3 to 1/2 of minimum wage IF I was lucky and had a buyer buy multiple items.

And to top it off, I lowered the going price of said items for about 2.5 years. Those prices have now gone up to where they were before and even higher in some cases.

You can't just say that because somebody buys low and sells high that they are actually making much money off of it.

It’s a PCI bridge chip.

The Obsidian2 SB200 versions can have a 2D daughter board attached, but otherwise the Banshee was the Voodoo2 with 2D, minus a TMU.

Neat, I bet those are pretty rare.

This website, https://www.oocities.org/tokyo/bay/4216/quantum.htm , mentions it uses an "MGV 2000 companion 2D Windows accelerator". However, I see sometimes it is called MVG 2000. Notice the swap letter order.

I think even if i had $100,000 spare i wouldn't be buying cards for those prices

maybe i don't 'get' it but what kind of experience can you have with that card which is not very similar to the experiences available with an ordinary agp card based system

with classic cars for comparison i do understand spending the extra - the experience of driving the car is different throughout.

i can understand it with unique or collectables, a signed baseball, a rare vase or something

but with these cards you just get a little extra on some games really and that's definitely cool but not $900 cool

It's not really different than any other kind of collecting. The card itself is rare. Anybody paying that much is a collector, not somebody who just wants to play old games.

Just like collectors will pay a lot more for a documented "numbers matching" classic car with no different driving experience than a much cheaper clone.

yes true, also like 1st edition books getting a higher price

for me the 2nd or later edition reads just as well as its the words that matter more than the edition, but yes i understand it as collectors item

perhaps i am more utilitarian about computer parts and don't really appreciate that they can be collectors items just like in other interests too, especially now that they are rare

You actually don’t get anything extra with the consumer focused X-24 in games. It’s clocked slightly higher by default at 92MHz (later drivers - it might have been 95MHz with earlier but I never tried them), but this can be done with any old Voodoo2; perhaps even more so on others because the X-24 suffers from excessive heat-soak due to its sandwich design if not properly cooled.

I don’t think most owners are playing games with these. Maybe a Benchmark from time to time and perhaps a YouTube video. Otherwise, there are other utilitarianism Voodoo cards getting same or better performance for far less risk.

The X-24 isn’t even that rare. They turn up frequently enough. There is simply more demand than there is supply.

They are works of art with a unique design, too.

In my experience, the PR166 doesn't overclock to PR200 speeds very well. Definitely won't be fully stable at stock voltage. So I can see the PR200 having some testing value, but didn't think it was this $1300 valuable. Now I feel bad for placing a heatsink on mine and placing it in my socket 5 system.

For the particular heatsink/clamp system I have to use on this board, it is very easy to scratch the K5's gold surface. Each time I remove the heatsink, the CPU value drops another 5%.

the value lies in using the CPU 😀

With prices like this I would be surprised if there weren't already counterfeiters making fake collectibles, especially since collectors tend to not actually test their chips.

i wonder if there will be a collectors market for 'rare' as in not very successful nor particularly good at the time models of android phone in the future.

actually a poor comparison, a phone you can interact with so i can understand that more - a cpu is completely hidden when in use, not distinguishable from any other device with same instruction set except by execution speeds
