... and now remembering the whole mess with mouse cursors on this forum... well...

Yeah, I was using a browser plugin to change certain UI things for quite a while as we were told, tough luck, we know it is crappy but it is staying that way.

Check these issues with the font:
Il
(Which is upper case i and which is Lower case L ?)
0oO
(Which is is the zero and which are O's?)

Sans serif should never be an option on a forum, especially one that has part numbers posted regularly.

It is even worse when writing programs and I see code posted regularly. The only way to make sure it is correct is to copy/paste to a program where the font is set to a serif type font.

You know, I was just thinking yesterday about how the font was weird, particularly with numbers... 1234567890... why are some of them dangling down below the others?

Yep, it is super stupid but at least the numbers are legible.

Am I the only one who thinks phpBB is just "bleh" when it comes to forum software? Randomly erroring with "Submitted form was invalid", losing post content if session expires, unintuitive quoting...just a primitive pile of poop stuck in the 90s...

How about the fact that I accidentally clicked to reply to you with quote and can't figure out how to cancel it!

Honestly, I don't know anything about web design, but if this is phpBB, then that is what I prefer for forum software. There seems to be an issue with an error displaying when posting, but I never actually lose the posts. Other than that, I never really have any issues. It is definitely old school, but I know my way around it and I don't have any problems using it or finding things.

It seems like when I end up on forums that are more "modern" it just feel like they only make sense on a mobile device where people expect sites\apps to be missing features or be clunky to navigate.

My only real complaints:
Leave our cursors alone! (I can fix this myself thankfully)
The font is a bit weird.
The errors or blank pages that come up sometimes when making a post.

Probably my biggest grievance though:
The complete lack of a list\menu for emojis! I have always liked using them (even made several in the past that forums ended up using for years), so it is annoying to not be able to see a list or menu for them. I have resorted to using "Windows + ." to bring up the standard Windows emojis, but they don't feel like the right ones most of the time.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Snover did a really good job of making it look pretty (and very much unlike phpBB).

Their default theme hasn't changed much in ages.

I spent a ton of time on forums ages ago, so it seems familiar to me.

Also, I still use the old-school theme here. The eye-buster purple is just a bit too much for me.

Sometimes I forget the remember me checkbox and then all hell breaks loose if you forget to copy what you were typing, especially if it's a longer post. IDK, I kinda like Invision Community and XenForo better, though I'm not sure if XenForo handles post content specifically if you try to submit with invalid session. I know Invision can restore post content editor, you can easily quote part of post (just select it and quote). XenForo lets you pile up quotes on the list from which you can insert them into the post.

Also, VOGONS seems to be the only forum that I can sometimes open via plain HTTP, but then it doesn't work correctly, as if some resources didn't load and you can't login until you refresh and connect via HTTPS.

And I'm getting older and grumpier. :\

Same. I just can't use the new purple theme.

I can't even figure out how to change themes...

Go to User Control Panel (you find that in the menu when you click your avatar on the top right corner), then click "Edit Display Options". Then check "Use old skool colour scheme"

I wonder what brightness settings do dark mode fans use on their monitors. I can't stand dark mode.

Its all personal preference isnt it .. you seem to like burning bright white backgrounds ... no idea why, I hate it and I hate that its the default for everything.

White text on a black background is easy on the eyes to both read and look at for extended periods, Computers for a long time were white on black till GUIs took over and suddenly everything was made overly bright.

So glad people saw reason and bought back white on black dark mode.

Since I switched to dark mode I cant stand light mode again. The bright hurts my eyes. I guess I just got older.

In my particular case the backlight level is toned to minimum and even then I wish it could go lower, particularly on my laptop. Other settings depend on if they cause white or black crush and are set so that nothing is lost at top and bottom end of the gamma curve. But I am a special case with very sensitive eyes, i.e I cannot be outside without strong sunglasses (my regular glasses are the kind that darken up automatically) and I find most office lighting etc. to be far too bright for comfort.

Darkmode is amazing. My Fujitsu Lifebook needed a light background in 1996 with its dim TFT, but I got all the brightness in the world now, and I don't want to beam it straight into my eyeballs.

While creating How can I get my GeForce FX 5700 [NV36] to work in my Tyan S2466 Tiger MPX? I looked at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBCode I expected table to work, but it doesn't, should it?

It worked as expected when I tried it on https://siv.boards.net/

bbcode tables still don't seem to work, are they ever likely to please, see Re: Intel 486DX4-100 @ 120MHz ?
