I see your point but we don't know how many cpus have been produced in that batch (are they all coming from the same?) let's say they produced 1000 cpus in that batch? There are 100 cpus will not work, that considering your 90% ratio which seems quite optimistic to be honest.

To be clear, they're all coming from the same seller, he has tens of thousands of these 570ACZ CPUs (NOS).
The 90% ratio I mentioned is based on my own personal experience with these 570ACZ CPUs (and if you read this entire thread, you'll see I'm not the only one).

We are sure that not every k6-2+ cpu can be modded but I never had such doubt personally...

Of course, that is an undeniable fact, but that was never the point. 😀
We were specifically talking about our modding experience with the 570ACZ CPUs that we all bought from this particular seller.

In my case, I modded more than 10 of these, and they all worked perfectly as K6-3+, except for one.
So I can definitely understand Skip94's dilemma; at this point I would also think it's strange to have an entire batch of 570ACZ CPUs that fail to run when enabling the full 256k L2 cache.

Basically, based on our previous experience, these have a 90+% success rate, so having 3 consecutive duds is what constitutes the "curiosity" factor, since it's an atypical behavior.

In layman’s terms: if these mods work almost every time, getting three failures in a row is like flipping a coin and getting heads ten times - it’s not impossible, but it’s weird enough to make you wonder if something else is going on.

Do any of your CPUs do 720MHz on air? Some of mine does but applications crash soon 🙁

I am not an extreme overclocker like you. 😄
As far as I remember, I never tried to go beyond 633 MHz (which was perfectly stable for me on Asus P5A / Gigabyte GA-5AA)
I actually have some videos @ 633 MHz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrV6vPGR3Yc (this particular motherboard has a slower cache, it doesn't like FSB115, so I had to settle for FSB105; I have other motherboards that are able to do 115 without a problem). ### Edit: never mind, I see you already saw the video and commented 2 years ago 😅

This wasn't a moan, just curiosity.
All of the K6-2+s I've worked on have been the 570Mhz ones from that US seller. I had probably done 6 or 9 before that worked perfectly, 100% success rate, and then got 3 bad ones in a batch. Was just curious, really!
Cheers

By the way, just so it’s on all of your brains. I once had one that I modded and I thought it didn’t work. It actually ended up being the motherboard so don’t hyper focus on being the CPU that’s failing it could be also something else that you’re not expecting so far all of the 570s that I have modded have been good But there was once a time when I thought that I had some duds, but I was wrong

As far as overclocking, I have heard of people having 690 MHz examples but I wasn’t quite sure whether or not they were stable. Does anyone have the down low on what the current record is?

My best is bench stable at 672mhz with 2.1V on air cooling.

Apparently, all those K6-2+ 570 CPUs that were available on eBay in almost unlimited supply have since disappeared. Too bad. Glad I still have a few left that I haven't modded yet (and, at this point, I will probably keep them in their original state).

Curious if he's selling another AMD CPU now, coulda been he got a quarter way into the container and it was a different model or something.

Dang, sad to see those dried up 🙁

I was planning on buying many more 🤣 So I think he saw we are making them into 3+ and now he probably will do it himself for more money.
My quest to 720MHz on air is probably dead now.

I was lucky I got a few dozen of them. Didn’t expect it to happen though.
