Hi-res "zoom out" games list

I always struggle with screenshots for this forum. There is a low filesize limit for uploading and I can never remember what it is. I took a 1080p screenshot which was about 3.8MB, but when I uploaded it, the forum shrunk it to 380kb and made it look like 256 colors. So I resized it down by 50% which got it just over 1MB in size. When I uploaded it, the forum still shrunk it further to 980KB into what you see in my previous post. I hate using 3rd party upload sites to share screenshots. Seems way too much of a hassle, so I usually don't bother sharing screenshots here anymore.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

FWIW, I've been using Imgur for years. May not be the best, but seems OK for typical screenshots not in extreme resolutions.

I've used Imgur before, but like I said, too much hassle uploading to a different site, getting a link, then jumping back here to paste it.

And some of these image hosting sites have massively restrictive hotlinking crap, like redirecting you to a bloated page full of ads and whatever or refusing to serve the image as a embed element, etc.

i think .png only make sense for 256 colors
modern games should be fine with .jpg. You can choose quality level in paint.net

Thanks for the tip. Let's try another one. This is another shot from a similar location. Ansel saves it as PNG. I just used MS Paint to convert to JPG without resizing.

Kingdom Come Deliverance II

I am now 38 hours in and I finally was reunited with Mutt! I could have gotten him much sooner, but the natural flow of events for my play-through dictated waiting a bit.

I do love the pacing of this game. I have been working on the main quest, but whenever I happen to be near a side quest, I will check it out and usually work on it, if not complete it. The freedom this game offers is unparalleled. Do whatever you want at your own pace. I'm slowly building up Henry's stats and skills naturally through exploration, combat, quests, books and training. There are certain people who train skills and you can get a small bump in that skill for some coin. Also, skill books can be found or purchased that that give a bigger bump in that skill. In order to read a skill book, you must be seated and with good lighting. A comfortable bed will let you read faster. Time actually passes, usually 2-4 hours of game time, so I've taken to saving my skill books to read right before bedtime. Then the next time I'm near a scribe's shop, I can sell them to get some of the money back.

During the Invaders! quest, I found what I think? is a bug, but a little googling found the solution. Without spoilers, there is a night of heavy drinking with some Cumans after which you wake up with everything you had equipped missing. It is not addressed at all in the quest or through conversation with the people involved in the quest. There appears to be a couple of ways of getting your items back, but they don't involve asking for them back, or some such. After doing a mundane task, they just appear back in your inventory. You do have to re-equip it all.

Now that Mutt is back at my side, I will have to retread my steps throughout the game, as one of his skills that I trained him for is "Seek". He finds nearby secrets throughout the game, sniffs them out, and barks when he gets near them. These are usually areas of interest or hidden treasures. For example, someone may have put some coin in a clay pot and buried it in the mud near a fishing spot. The odds of finding it on your own by accident are slim, but not impossible, but with Mutt's help, it's much easier.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

Sat down and played through Full Throttle Remastered today. Played the original many times over the years.

Love that game. 😀

Lovely screenshots thanks and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it, it's on my to-do list now that it's appeared on GOG.

I'm still really enjoying Oblivion Remastered. Mods have started to appear of course - it's basically the same engine underneath the UE5 veneer so modders are able to port old mods over pretty easily it seems. I haven't gone anywhere near a main quest or even the larger cities, I'm easily filling my time by just marking a place on the map and finding things to do along the way.

I put Doom Eternal on hold for now. Too much platforming and resource management.

To say it plainly, I just wasn't having fun.

I'm curious how far you got. On my 3 attempts to beat Eternal, it always felt like the level or two after Super Gore Nest was where the fatigue from platforming and resource management really hit.

Not far, just the third level.

I got fed up with all the things that I had to keep track of. That and the constant platforming ruined the experience for me, and made the game feel like a chore. I kept the saves, so that I can try again when I'm in a different frame of mind. For now, I'm simply done.

That sounds exactly like my experience with the game. It really doesn't feel like a Doom game at all.

Yeah, I found the writing crappy too. And to make it even worse the game absolutely drowns you in it. PS:T is like a book too but it has excellent writing that keeps you interested and willing to read on, while Numenera's writing makes you groan in agony.

Yeah, this game becomes a real drag, real quick. Every time I enter a new screen and see a dozen NPCs, all of whom will have a novel of exposition delivered through poor dialogue, I feel the urge to just shut the game off. P:T actually keeps most conservations simple and concise (and normal), and even when it has to present complex concepts or dump some exposition on you, it breaks the conversation down in many, many dialogue choices, allowing you to interact somewhat naturally with NPCs and gain information without it seeming like an exposition dump. In contrast, nearly every conversation in T:ToN has you firing off questions like you're some detective grilling suspects, which makes no sense within the game.

I don't know did they badly overestimate their skills or did they somehow really think quantity > quality when it comes to writing or what, but I'm rather baffled how nobody amongst the devs noticed this ain't working too great and cut the amount of dialog in order to mitigate the problem.

I seem to recall the developer or published bragging about how the game has over a million words in the script, so I think quantity > quality was definitely the aim.

I've finished Doom Eternal in the first month after it launched. I really enjoyed it, but now that you guys mentioned it, I never really thought of it as a "Doom game" per se. I just think of it as a fun, standalone FPS, with very good optimization and nice graphics. I also really like the fast-paced combat style, mastering the weapon system and quick weapon switching (i.e.: using the right tool for the right enemy).

Not so fast, clueless1! I may have misjudged the game (slightly).

I put some serious time into this over the past couple of days, and while the writing is still pretentious and annoying, and the world a themepark of absurdity, once you've fully explored the hub area and start just doing quests, the game gets sort of good. The quests are pretty interesting, and once you get to the end of the first main quest you also find a companion that's actually pretty interesting.

The mechanics behind solving challenges seem bizarre at first, but once you learn how it works, the game makes a lot more sense. You basically have three stats, and every single challenge uses one of them. If you cannot solve a challenge just with your base stat, you can spend points from that stat pool to increase your chance up to 100%. In most cases, you can also choose to use one of your companions instead. So, you want to choose companions that have stats the complement your own. It's really that simple, but I don't think the game really explains it well, regardless of all the tutorials and loading screen hints. Or maybe the way it works seems so simple, that you assume it has to be more complex than it seems... but it's not.

Having said that, the mechanics are indeed way too simple, and once you've leveled up a few times, the challenge simply melts away. It also feels less like you're roleplaying a character, and more like your playing some kind of abstract boardgame where you are simply spending resource points to win.
