OK, so let's try to build a list of games supporting this, together with notes 😉 Only tested games, please.

So far we've got:

Games:

Bob Morane: Chevalerie 1 --> Just CGA graphics
Bob Morane: Jungle 1 --> Just CGA graphics
Bob Morane: Science Fiction 1 --> Just CGA graphics
Cyrus / Cyrus II Chess / 3D Chess --> PC1512 graphics, although not the best mode available. 2D display has some glitches.
Feud --> Same graphics as EGA / Tandy
Frank Bruno's Boxing --> Best mode available, see pics at MobyGames
Iznogoud --> Just CGA graphics
Manoir de Mortevielle, Le --> Best mode available, beware of poorly cracked versions
Maupiti Island --> Tried it long ago, was told graphics were the same as in EGA mode
Millennium 2.2 --> PC1512 graphics, although not the best mode available.
Nueve Principes en Amber --> Spanish localization of "Nine Princes in Amber". Same CGA graphics as the original, but the game only works in Amstrad machines.
Ripoux, Les --> Best mode available
Top Gun --> Shows glitches

Applications:

CompuShow (CSHOW) Graphics Viewer
Deluxe Paint II
GEM desktop environment

Non-games

- GEM desktop environment
- Deluxe Paint II
- CompuShow (CSHOW) Graphics Viewer

For Games, you can add "Feud", the Amstrad mode looks the same as the EGA and Tandy modes.

Maupiti Island indeed has an Amstrad mode and it looks like the games EGA mode. Except that there is a "box" around the mouse cursor in Amstrad mode and not in EGA mode.

Also, the Amstrad / EGA modes look better then the Tandy mode in this case. The Tandy mode appears to use a lower resolution, making things like rendered text difficult to read.

Of course. Silly me. The Tandy 1000 has its own 16 color modes, but they use 160x200 and 320x200 resolutions, whereas the PC1512 uses 640x200.

Iznogoud is another game that advertised PC1512 support, but like the Bob Morane games only seems to display CGA.

Ah you can make MobyGames produce a list, guess these all need confirming though..

That list seems very unaccurate to me. Just this afternoon I tried both "Lemmings" and "Oh no! More Lemmings", and none of both had an Amstrad option. The thing is, I'm almost sure the versions I played in the 90's did have this option. Guess I'll have to dig more.

EDIT: I think I see where the confusion about the "Lemmings" games started. Some of the Holiday / Christmas games offer an option for the Amstrad PC1640. But it's not for the graphics, but to set up the CPU speed.

The games that strike me as more likely to have a PC1512 mode are the ones made in France. The Amstrad CPC was big there, and apparently also the PC1512.

Yeah the executables or files required for older graphics tended to get stripped on later budget and "gold" compilation releases. One game I always wanted to play on old portables turned up and I grabbed it excitedly only to find it was vga only in that version and hercules and CGA missing.

Tried another one, "Mortville Manor" aka "Le manoir de Mortevielle". Just CGA graphics, again.

The PC1512 and PC1640 were also popular in the big neighbor country on the right,
but sadly it not really had any decent game studios at the time. 🙁

Edit: Maupiti Island works in 640x200 (PC1512) in PCem.
Unfortunately, the scan lines (stripes) aren't visible in the recording.

But wait a minute, turns out Mortville Manor does support the PC1512 mode... just not the version I tested yesterday.

The correct version seems to be the freely one available at lankhor.net, to be exact the French version 1.

I did a few test with 86Box 3.2.1, configured to emulate an Amstrad PC1512, to try to validate some things.

- Maupiti Island has the same box around the mouse cursor with 86Box as in DOSBox-X
- Iznogoud still only shows CGA after selecting Amstrad
- The Bob Morane Chevalerie 1 and Jungle 1 games hang after selecting Amstrad
- The Bob Morane Science Fiction game hangs even earlier on the language select (it takes a long time on DOSBox-X, but eventually continues to the next screen)

In another board, member Ignatus confirmed the game "Top Gun" has PC1512 support. His screenshots:

In the second one he mentions that he has identified some glitches regarding PC1512 emulation under DOSBox-X. In the bottom section you can still see the Ocean logo, for instance.

Just thunk of another reason why a game might specify PC1512/PC1640 support without special graphics modes. The mouse is weird, so a game that doesn't use MSDOS mouse calls through the driver might need specific Amstrad mouse support. Also, you can plug a digital joystick to the keyboard so it may indicate Amstrad joystick support.

I've tried a few games that are categorized in the Amstrad graphics list on https://www.mobygames.com/ .... specifically Die Hard 2: Die Harder and Metal Mutant and neither seem to have an "Amstrad " mode...... not sure if the versions I have don't support the Amstrad mode, but I would think it would be a default option in official releases.

I just had to jump in here to say I've tried for many years to get Infogrames' Iznogoud game to display in Amstrad PC1512 graphics mode, but have never had any luck getting anything but CGA out of it in all the emulations I've done. Though I was convinced the game had an enhanced color mode, because the back of the box for the PC release shows a fuller color version of the game that looks like a it's a PC version.

If anybody can manage to make Iznogoud come up in 16 colors, I will shower praises on them forever. I have even considered getting my hands on a real Amstrad PC1512 to finally know the answer once and for all.

I tried this game after reading this and there is an option to choose AMSTRAD PC 1512 when you load the game, but once it loads, it is just CGA color...... no idea what the purpose of that option is, unless it does something different with the display as compared to just choosing CGA..... I'm using an actual Amstrad PC1512.

So you're just getting the standard 4 colors? That's disappointing...I really hoped the graphics would display in the extended colors on an actual PC1512.
