You'd think it would at least be an N/C or Reserved pin on prior model datasheets. ... You might be looking for a "specification update" rather than a full sheet.

edit: like this one...
https://www.cpu-zone.com/Pentium/Pentium%20pr … ecification.pdf
Which seems to indicate that only B2 steppings in the core are 300, thus we might assume only those have the higher multi on die.
the setting is given as iBF2 1, BF1 0, BF0, 1

edit2: Note if you read down the big stepping table 3x multi is not indicated for the higher steppings.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Interesting. I believe it is also notable that I don’t think they released a 200mhz tillamook in ppga

Holy hannah, a 5x 60mhz, 300mhz part is indicated!

5x multi may exist!!!

By the way, I unearthed my VAIO's model name in my old notifications, here is a confirmation that it's a 4.5 https://specspro.net/laptops/8148-sony-vaio-p … eur&country=fr/
Not the most reliable source ever, but I was already pretty confident, so I'm 99% sure now.
x5 would be perfect, but 4.5x is probably the best multiplier for best performance since it allows aiming for 100 or 112MHz FSB with L2 cache.

Albeit on a Q-spec, so maybe never made it to production silicon?

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

One may theorize that the multi might be present on all cores with that stepping though

Call out to all owners of 300 mhz examples to try and find the 5x setting 333mhz (it should be stable)

Thanks for the missing part of the doc.puzzle. So now we can see official evidence of two 300MHz parts.
The 5x mul version has marking Q768 - this is an engineering sample so don't expect to meet it in the wild. Heh, maybe some clever Chinese guy is just sitting on a box of old saved CPUs from the scrap, reading this thread and preparing the special offer on eBay, 🤣 😀

If anyone finds some, please contact me haha!

In the other thread, someone tried setting a 300 to 5x it didn’t work unfortunately 🙁

"Q" is for Qualification, right ? It might not be as rare as a "E".

Q in a spec is AFAIK used for either qualification or engineering samples ...

I was under the impression that the type of sample it was was counterstamped, for example you might get a CPU with that S-spec but it might be stamped "Mechanical Sample" and be electrically inoperable, or maybe just barely run for basics.

Got also 2 TT266 now, the mobile 320pin TCP and 296pin PGA 'adapter'

They are really ready to use, at least on my DFI P5BV3+ (yet just tested on no other board) , but the traces/legs of the TCP 'film' version are really sensitive and can easily damaged. May some UV resin would be a good idea...
OC is lower then the embedded ones, 4x83Mhz seem to work.

I took with me my VAIO with - very likely - a 4.5x66MHz Tillamook.

Unfortunately, I couldn't install any OS on it.
Is it still worth it investigating about its CPU?
If not, I'll just delay it. If yes, my issue is that it acts like there are missing files on CDs. It seems to work well with floppy disks, except the FreeDOS boot image with which it just says "missing OS" when trying to boot on it. Of course I tested it on another PC. The MS boot disk works, I formated the HDD thanks to the fdisk utility on it.
When trying to boot on a Windows 98SE CD, the installer starts but the installation stops while trying to access the very first files on the CD to copy on the HDD, claiming it's missing (the CD is fine).
Since I have this issue with both floppy disks (FreeDOS) and all CDs, my guess would be RAM. It has 128mb, I hope it's not a proprietary module or soldered chips.
It could be the CD reader and just another kind of issue with the FreeDOS boot disk though.

Sorry for being completely off-topic, I should create a thread.

Hey question, can any pentium control multiplier in software? I seem to vaguely recall that setmul works on pentium mmx/tillamook? Am I remembering wrong?

I don't think so, you probably read that Setmul can deactivate Data Cache, Code Cache and other features to slow it down for DOS games.

Stuff that might be of some interest about multipliers.
