Slotkets don't do multiplier settings. Sometimes they do Voltage and FSB. The motherboard has a four bit dip switch for the multiplier.

I suppose. This particular motherboard does not go beyond 133MHz FSB though. Which is fine with me. So at most this speed can be added to the benchmark: 10.0x133=1333 MHz. Maybe 11.0x133=1466 MHz as well? That would match retail Tualerons at overclocked FSB. I am reluctant to switch to another i440BX motherboard for now, as it would decrease the comparison accuracy. Like I forgot to set memory at CL2, but I cannot change it now for the same reason.

Alright. Now i understand. I thought that the Tualatin has a fully locked multi, but acc. to your tests, the lower ones are open and higher than default are locked.

For me, the 10x140 setting is the one i would prefer. I have not an i440BX board, instead i have a board with i815EP chipset. According to the manual i can clock it 133MHz default and up to 166MHz overclocked...

Unfortunately any retail Pentium III processor is multiplier locked both upwards and downwards. (Except if you would consider some P3 mobiles with their 'speedstep' support.) The processors used in the benchmark are not retail, they are Eng. Samples. You can click their sspec code, it has a link to the CPU world page of the processor. VIA C3 is always unlocked by the way.

I see. i815EP has proper support for 133MHz, whereas i440BX gets an out of spec AGP bus speed at anything above 100MHz already. Fortunately this Geforce 4 did not complain at all. I suppose for you going beyond 133MHz is more straightforward.

Call me a wuss, but the courage to run a 33 MHz PCI bus at 44 MHz left me a while back . I have already seen enough disk corruption to last me a lifetime (that and a dead Intel i740 that kicked the bucket while I was running the AGP bus at some rather insane value. I am pretty sure I kept it as a reminder).

That being said, I am not averse to overclocking, just not the PCI bus , so ordered an 815E based board to push my Tualerons (1100 and 1300) and possibly my Tualatin-s 1400 a bit .

Some BX boards have a 1/4 PCI divider, so you can at least keep PCI in spec at 133MHz.

Interesting about your i740. My i740 AGP also died, but I was only running PCI at 37MHz (75MHz FSB).

IIRC, the PCI divider doesn't affect the AGP clock (or something like that). So, PCI runs in spec but AGP does not.

I belive is not the PCI clock which affects the i740 AGP, is the AGP clock, since the i440BX only supports 1/1 and 2/3 AGP dividers, at FSB 133, the i440BX will run the AGP at 89 mhz which is already too much for many cards, 150 Mhz FSB on a BX is possible if you have a really good board and your videocard can hadnel a massive 100 MHz AGP clock

So with the i440BX and overclocked AGP speeds, we have (in FSB/AGP/PCI Ratio):

I was running either an Abit BX6 rev 1.0 or an Asus P3B-F (probably the Abit) at the time and was experimenting with AGP overclocking (89 Mhz seems about right). I do remember that the i740, while it was alive, got a tremendous boost from the faster AGP bus speed . If anyone is curious, I am fairly certain it was a Diamond Stealth II G460 .

seems like the Tualaron outscores a coppermine at the same clock, i still wonder if is possible to bench a Tualatin-256 Pentium III at the same FSB/clock as the Celeron
